Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

As promised, I'm beginning a new exercise motivation thread. I haven't had a regular workout routine since my second pregnancy and I look it! And feel it. I want to regain health and energy so I can tackle my vocation in a more purposeful way and have more kids!

I have a lot of trouble fitting in exercise around other family priorities but I was inspired by everything I read on the T-Tapp thread last year. I took the plunge and ordered the workout and it should be arriving tomorrow.

I wanted to get this thread going before the board closes for the weekend so that those of you who want to join in can think about goals and be ready to go on Monday (though of course, latecomers are welcome--and so are non-T-Tappers ).

I'll do my best to keep this thread going through Christmas. This is a time of year when I certainly need the benefits of discipline, exercise, and accountability more than ever. I know that next week is Thanksgiving week but if you've been thinking about starting a new exercise routing or reviving an old one--now is the time! Just do it, as Angie said

My goal for this weekend is to read the T-Tapp book and watch the seminar video that will come tomorrow and then be ready to start learning the basic workout on Monday.

Who's with me

And, though I don't mean to (yet) recommend T-Tapp in particular, if you need a program to get you going there are some great closeout deals on the T-Tapp site--particularly if you have a VHS player. Or if you are like me and want the full workout plus some variety you can see in this thread the pretty good deal I got.

If you are already a T-Tapp fan but got tired of it, the step away dvd is on closeout for only $7.50. No excuses, ladies!

Thank you for starting this, I'm in.

I had a baby 2 months ago and need to get back into shape. I realized during my last pregnancy I had to take my health seriously, due to a severely rotated 4th lumbar there were a total of 6 weeks this year during my pregnancy that I literally could not walk. Try taking care of 8 kids and a preborn without walking! I want to be in excellent health and shape and not cringe and delete pictures my kids take of me.

I'm in my fourth week of an exercise routine. I'm using Leslie Sansone's Walk Away the Pounds as I had sucess losing weight with her in the past. The first two weeks I walked 6 miles, last week and this week are my 10 mile weeks and next week and from here on out, I walk 15 miles a week.

My dh said he already sees a difference! I am very motivated and it is a top priority for me right now as I saw the chaos that ensued when I was physically unable to do anything for myself.

Thanks for joining in, Maddie! Sounds like you are off to a great start and will be a great encouragement to those of us who are just getting going.

Oh, and, and the best way for me to stay motivated is to motivate others--so only chime in here if you are serious about having a butt-kicker, I mean, cheerleader

Thanks Susan! I really could use a cheerleader

I was doing T-tapp basic workout plus this summer but got out of the habit when we went on vacation. I haven't done much of anything since.

My 2 youngest are only a year apart so I have alot of baby weight to lose plus I would like to have another baby soon (if it's God's will).

I just ordered the step away DVD (thanks for the tip!). I am planning on starting Monday!!

hopefully we can all help each other stay motivated - I can use all the help I can get

God Bless!!

I started T-Tapp basic plus on Monday. My knees (all muscles surrounding them) feel it! I'm feeling rather uncoordinated, too, but it's getting easier.

I'm in! as are my teens . Goal: Basic WO Plus 6 days a week (Sundays off) plus purchase the walking DVD. Thanks for the links!

Courtney, somewhere in the TTapp topics here others talked about knees and how to relieve pressure. If you can't find the information here, I've heard that you get good feedback when you call TTapp directly.

Thanks for starting this, Susan .

Love,

So glad you are joining us, Angie! Your long-term success this past year has been very inspiring.

I thought setting a serious exercise goal for next week was crazy but dh came home last night excited about his swimming routine. He's gotten back to a regular program after three years off. He announced he was going to keep swimming next week--and we'll be at my mom's who lives about as far from a YMCA or health club as you could get. But he did find a pool somewhat nearby for a reasonable fee . I was so inspired by his determination that I asked him how I could keep going all next week, too. He offered to bring his work laptop and DVD drive along so I can exercise in our guest room without being on display to the entire extended family.

Anyone else have a plan to get going or keep going while traveling next week?

The copy of T-Tapp Total Workout that I had on hold at our library came in yesterday, so I will be trying to join you. With my last 3 children, I kept on a little bit more weight each time. I want to lose 25 pounds for health reasons (I had gestational diabetes during my last preganancy and possibly during my two prior pregnancies).

I checked the same DVD set out from the library this summer. At that time, I could only workout once a week, so I used the Total Workout on Saturdays and I lost 4 pounds in one month. I made absolutely no dietary changes.

I hope to do the Basic Workout each day, starting this afternoon, and the Total Workout on Saturdays. I would prefer to exercise in the morning, but it didn't work today.

Thank you Susan for the motivation. Good luck everyone! Yes, you can!

I'm not a T-Tapper, but I'm in!

I've been back to running regularly for the past seven months (since the end of my postpartum period with my infant). I was really working on upping my mileage and working on my pace, adding in speed and hill workouts, etc.--I really like seeing physical improvement when I'm concentrating on fitness, and I do love running once I'm in shape.

Now I'm 19 weeks pregnant and have slowed down a bit. Six weeks or so ago, I finally hit a wall and had to cut way back. (Until then, my weekly mileage, for example, was about 22 miles; now it's just 12. I'm also not able to run more than 6 miles at a time.) I am still running, but seeing my pace slow and my distance cut down has me less motivated than I was before. I really feed on competing against myself, so I'm dragging now that I really can't. I imagine that finding that motivation is only going to be more of a challenge as I slow further.

Anyway, my goal is to keep running three times a week, with at least three miles each outing. Last pregnancy I was able to walk daily right up until the day I gave birth, and I really think it helped my recovery time, so I'm trying to keep up at least some level of physical fitness. (Of course, this is all taking into account a healthy pregnancy--I'm very happy to give up my running entirely if the baby needs me to, but so far I have the doc's approval.)

Yay--my T-Tapp box just arrived from my friend in brown (who is, incidentally, the least friendly UPS guy we've ever had, which is awkward because he's here almost every day).

My husband has a colleague coming over tonight and after I've fed them an amazing dinner I think he'd like to have him all to himself. So I'm going to crack open the book and if our guest leaves early enough I might pop in the instructional video tonight.

Looking forward to more motivation after the retreat this weekend!

Bummer, I have a girlfriend whose dh calls the UPS guy her boyfriend because he's there everyday. Love that brown truck...

Well, I fell off the wagon this weekend because of the septic issue but I'm on the ball this week. I woke this morning at 5 am and walked 3 miles!

This is my 15 mile week, say good-bye to frump-girl.

I wanted to mention a T-Tapp tip. It helps me to find times throughout the day where I can plug in standing up the T-Tapp way - tucking bottom, tightening belly, throwing shoulders back, popping my heals, knees out to look straight (not the full knee bend!). Anytime I stand...brushing teeth, waiting in line, standing at Mass, etc. I can quickly stand tall!

Love,

Good for you, Maddie! That's great to get up so early. I tried getting up early for awhile (to do housework) and it was so frustrating because it seemed like the earlier I got up, the earlier the kids got up. So now we're trying me staying up later and just getting up around when the kids do.

BUT, now I don't know how to work in the "I get sweaty and need another shower" thing! I just now finished day four of my T-tapp bootcamp. Just as promised, day four felt like a huge breakthrough and I'm pumped to continue.

I'm really hoping to keep on with a 14-day bootcamp through Thanksgiving. Say a little prayer for me as we travel tomorrow and will be at my mom's for five days. Even though I'm the only one in my family with children and on the thinner side, relatively, I seem to get way more than my share of weight comments. I'm hoping to be able to take it gracefully.

Thanks for the tip, Angie! I was trying to figure out at Mass yesterday how to work in a good T-Tapp posture while holding my 10mo in the back of the church.

Anyone else want to encourage us with your progress?

I know--I've never been able to figure this one out either. I'd love to be able to work in another run in the afternoons on the days when all three kids nap (we have a treadmill in the garage), but I definitely can't work in a shower too (the shower always wakes the kids up).

Praying for you, Susan. I had a relative who could never keep these kinds of comments to herself and it was always really hurtful to me. Especially when you're postpartum!

I am planning to join in. I want to get back into T-tapping but I am going to be realistic: I can't do it until next week. My dh's parents are coming into town tomorrow and I am going to be BUSY.

Next week, I am in.

Physiotherapy Before and After Childbirth

I recommend this pamphlet (the second half of it) to you Maddie, and for anyone else who has recently had a baby. This is what they hand us out in hospital in Western Australia. Hope it might be helpful, in case you haven't been given something like it.

Thanks for your help Susan. I went ahead and ordered what you recommended. It will probably arrive (here in Australia) later this week.

But I probably can't join you for a week or two unfortunately. I had an accident on Sunday. I dropped a cup on my big toe and I had to go into emergency to have the huge cut I got glued back together

I can't wait to join you when this ole foot is better

Thanks for that pamphlet, Sharyn. I had seen most of that information before except for the specific "tummy indrawing" exercises. I noticed that one of the postures points suggested keeping the "butt tucked under." Just like T-Tapp.

And so sorry to hear about your accident. I hope that mends soon for the sake of your regular life as well as getting into exercise.
