Amy-15 has swine flu and is now starting to be covered with a rash. Has any heard of this as a symptom or is she trying to start something new?

I haven't heard of it as a particular symptom but your body clears the toxins from viruses in many ways and one is through the skin..some people get a rash from a virus even if the particular strain isn't one that gives a rash to everyone.

Hopefully that's it---she has been fever free for 2 days, so I think she has turn the corner....

Uhh...I would call the doctor. In younger children, H1N1 with a rash is on the emergency warning signs list, per the CDC. She's probably considered an adult for purposes of the warning signs...but I'd check, just the same.

Our peds. office has a website that gives the cdc link for things to look out for. The rash is listed as something to call the doc for, either for adult or child, but I do think the wording and set-up for their list is rather poorly done. Here is the link:

Were you able to get your dc tested for swine flu? Our ped. said only the admitted pts. here in MI are getting tested. We have 6 out of 8 of us sick. I haven't been this sick in ....years! I am worried about my ds in PA at a small college. He has asthma, always worse symptomatically with winter viruses, and just too far away! So far, he is healthy.

 Prayers for your gang, Joann!

 God Bless,
 Stacy in MI

Thanks for the link, Stacy. Over-all Amy is one of the healther ones right now--this was just a new symptom.

 | I will call the dr. in the morning. I already need to take my ds-16 in tomorrow because his cough is getting worse.

We have not been tested. The drs. are not testing anyone in this area because it is so wide spread, they are just going on the assumption that it is the swine flu.

I'm not sure if my kids had swine flu, but 2 of them had rashes with an illness. we were exposed to several kids who had swine flu from soccer teams. Our version of the flu was pretty mild - only 1 kid with a 99 fever for a few hours and a monster headcold for the rest of the kids. They all had coughs that lasted a long while. Somehow I missed it although we all had headaches for several days.

Anyway, the rash started on the trunk, was small pimply and disappeared after 24 hours or so. I did not call the dr because I knew it wasn't strep and it didn't itch. One of my boys always had viral rashes when he was younger so I didn't wig out. Is that the kind of rash your Amy had? I did try to google swine flu and rash and there are a lot of hits for it so it seems that it may be part of the illness.

Hope your family is feeling better!

In our area I've heard that some people who think they have the flu, and present like the flu, go in for testing and are coming out testing positive for strep rather than the flu. Just another idea for a rash too. A friend of mine's dd only presents strep with a fever and then a rash.

Amy has pneumonia from the flu and a totally unrelated secondary infection causing the rash (and many mouth sores) which need medication. I thought others may wonder about this is someone comes down with a rash.

Thanks for the info, Joann, and I am so sorry to hear she has the pneumonia and other problems! Prayers for Amy! My 14yods is better, but still very exhausted. This has been a doozy of a flu, at least for us.
