tylenol or advil?
My dil needs to know and I can't remember!
Anyone? and another question...could a fever and chills be the beginning of mastitis if there is no sore breast?

Tylenol and Advil are both classified as L1 on Dr. Hale's categories of medication risk.
L1 SAFEST:
Drug which has been taken by a large number of breastfeeding mothers without any observed increase in adverse effects in the infant. Controlled studies in breastfeeding women fail to demonstrate a risk to the infant and the possibility of harm to the breastfeeding infant is remote; or the product is not orally bioavailable in an infant.

I think when you're pregnant, you can take Tylenol but not Advil. So I think it's probably the same when breastfeeding.
Hopefully, someone else will verify. I rarely take either so I'm not 100%.

Both Tylenol and Advil are fine while breastfeeding. One shouldn't take Advil while pregnant, but it is safe for nursing moms!

The sheet from my Dr. recommends Tylenol.
Products containing Ibuprofen are ok for 1st and 2nd trimesters, but NOT the third.
Don't know about your 2nd question.

if she would consider a natural remedy I can reccommend red raspberry leaf tea. I used this and it worked wonders with fever and it is fine while breastfeeding too .

Yes...I always tell moms to suspect that first if they are breastfeeding as it's very likely the case (unless there has been a round of similar illness going through family already).

She may be able to see red marks even if it's not sore yet as well.
