Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Posting Ruth's question here for information and resources if anyone has any.

Last month I posted a prayer request because of a tooth abcess and my fears about it. I finally went to the dentist and decided to have my front tooth pulled and have an implant put in in a few mmonths, while wearing a temporary tooth in the mean time.

I was supposed to have the tooth pulled this morning. Of course, I was up all night with worry and doubt, so I prayed to the Holy Spirit to guide me to make the right choice. Having a tooth pulled is very drastic and I wanted to see if there were other options when there is an abcess, especially as big as mine. The dentist did not give me any options, except to have a brige, which does not last as long as an implant, and my roots have dissolved to half the size, so I will eventually lose it.

Two weeks ago I had the impression done for the temporary tooth, but the dentist office called me at 7am this morning to reschedule for another two weeks because the tooth did not arrive in time for this morning's appointment and he is going away.

Now I'm wondering if I have this extra time to explore other options. Can a tooth be saved after a major abcess with a second round of antibiotics? (I have already paid $600 out-of-pocket just for the x-ray, impression and tooth) I was mentally ready to go in this morning at 7:30, but after getting that phone call I'm wondering if God isn't guiding me to do something less drastic.

Will you please pray that I might find an answer to this? I have already invested so much time and money on this.

Does anyone know if you can keep a tooth after an abcess? I'm off to google this now.

If there has been such a big absess I would imagine that it would make a root canal more dicey.

Unfortunately infected root canals are not unheard of, most people are unaware they have infected root canals. My husband had cysts sitting at the base of his that left him with an low grade infection throughout his whole body for decades, he had been told that by his practioners but they never knew the source of the infection.

His dentist discovered the source and his life-threatening heart problems stopped immediately, his leg muscle seizure problems also stopped never to return. He never felt well in all those years with infected root canals...

I have had a good friend who has just had her root canals removed..one had an enormous cyst at the base.

These are things that would need to be weighed up.

I'm not sure why you have been offered such an expensive implant as well when I know of two people now who have just had a false front tooth welded onto the two teeth next to the space but not in the form of an expensive bridge. This was a successful, healthy and cheap option for both these people. I don't think you can weld for many teeth but you can for the front, top teeth.

Praying this works out well for you Ruth, I imagine your worry and concern, teeth can be such a trouble!

Praying Ruth! I know you don't want to have to go to all the trouble with the implant. Hopefully, you can find another option.

3 years ago, I spent much money, much time and considerable pain trying to save 2 teeth with a large abcess between them. After 6 weeks, I ended pulling the teeth. If there is a better option, I was never able to find it.

Prayers for you!
