Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Does anyone else experience chronic sleepiness in the afternoon . . . especially when pregnant? How do you cope with it? Do you manage to take a nap somehow? How do you occupy your kids while you do so?

I'm interested to read others replies too. I'm extremely exhausted beginning at this time of day. I'm 11 weeks along so I know tiredness factors in that. But it's gotten to be more of a "lethargy" of exhaustion. No matter how much I rest or nap it doesn't go away!

Taking my good high dose prenatal vitamins (I use NF Formulas Prenatal Forte) pretty much solved that problem for me.

BUT when all else fails.. lock/block the door and put on a movie preferable in a somewhat child proof room, with a comfy chair for mom to doze in.

OK, maybe it's my age , but I love afternoon naps (even just laying down for an hour with a book or actually napping for an hour) ... and I think it's good for all my kids to have an hour or so of quiet time (either reading, playing quietly on their beds, whatever) ... so altho I'm not pregnant, I deal with it by sleeping!

It's been 8 years since I was pregnant so it isn't that. Perhaps it's age but I've been sooooo sleepy lately. Hope it isn't hidden health issues.

I'm blaming it on the summer heat.

I hate that feeling. When I was pregnant with my last kiddo, somehow one of my sons always wanted to read to me at say 2pm. I'll tell you, I had the craziest little dozing dreams (please tell me I'm not the only one who this would happen to) and I'd jolt awake and say something totally incoherent to what my son was reading. Or worse, he'd have me read out loud and I know I know I'd stop midsentence. I think if he had been older and more savvy, he totally would have thought I was on drugs!!!! I now tell my kids mommy can't read out loud past lunchtime!

I agree with Mary...just nap. I find that even 15 minutes, of just not fighting it and just closing my eyes, it can be just enough.

Nap. Power nap -- 15 minutes does wonders for me. I tell the kids -- QUIET TIME -- under penalty of "no computer later", esp. if they wake me up because of fighting/arguing/whatever. They usually end up napping themselves or reading a book. If there are littles I'll read to them until they fall asleep, or I do.

Haha, Kacky, I did the exact same thing when pregnant with my second!

The only remedy I could find (since I am not a napper usually) was to get a bit of exercise if I could possibly stand doing so. Even just marching around the kitchen swinging my arms seemed to help a bit.

I usually make some coffee that wakes me up and I can get to bed much easier when I do drink it otherwise I am soooo tired and dragging my feet and brain.

This does not work for everyone, but thought I would mention it.
Oh and good old exercise does it also for me, like 15 minutes of Pilates or a good run on the epi machine or treadmill for about 10 minutes.
