Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hey Y'all,
I want to share what has helped me lately:
Esther Gokhale Wellness Center
Not to bore you with my life story of aches and pains, I'll keep it short - I tried T-Tapp from Nov. to March of this year, and I felt good using it, but it did not resolve my minor hip pain and I was having foot issues. So I started going to the the Physical Therapist for my hips and in the same week started the Esther Gokhale method of moving (and the few, quick exercises - like yoga poses - in the back of the book). I'm done with PT and am doing the maintenance exercises from that and continuing with Esther's method.

What is it?

Esther Gokhale has studied people's posture in other countries where people do all types of physical labor, all day, and their incidence of back pain is 5% or less. She has written a book filled with photos of healthy people using good posture from many different countries, photos of ancient statues showing good posture, and lots of cute baby photos (babies have good posture usually).

The chapters include: sitting (with a back rest and without), lying down (on back and on side), standing, bending over (hip hingeing she calls it), and glidewalking.

Her theory is that if one uses proper posture throughout the day, they will be using the proper muscles and thus won't need to do rehabilitative back stretches to take care of back pain. Imagine using your hamstrings and oblique abdominals every time you bend over, and you do it without hurting any part of your body.

Her book is filled with glowing recommendations, many from people in the medical field who had back pain themselves. The book was only published in 2008 so that's why I never found it before. Two notable people who recommend the book are Billie Jean King and a PhD/MD of Neurology at the Mayo Clinic.

Here is a talk she gave to employees at Google and she hits the high points. It's well worth a listen.

The book is available at Amazon for about $16.

Guess I sound fanatical, but I have had troubles with my posture since I was about 12, and have had slight back troubles (and other body parts) off and on since I was in my early twenties, so I'm thrilled to have found something that makes so much sense (she explains everything in the method) and makes my body feel like a young person.

Interesting Kelly! I think I'll add this to my summer reading list!
