I apologize in advance if this is a little
My 9yo has had a wart on the side of her second toe for months and months now. It has gotten so huge! We tried the apple cider vinegar cure, tea tree oil, then store bought wart "drops" (40% salycilic acid)...finally two weeks ago we tried freezing it (at home with a store bought kit). Nothing. I am pretty sure that time was because she still had a hard shell of skin over it. That finally broke away a bit after the two weeks we were supposed to wait between freezings, so I was able to reach a more tender and reddish "wart looking" thing under the hard shell of skin. We have tried filing the dead skin down but she was really fighting me on it and didn't want to do it herself (even when I tried it didn't seem to take anything away! )
So fast forward to yesterday and we froze it again. Now she says her toe is SO itchy! My *guess* is that the wart is dying and the skin underneath is trying to heal, etc. Her toe also looks swollen and a bit red, which I'm also trying to blame on the healing thing going on.
I'm wondering if there is anything I can do to help this along, or if/when I should just call the doctor. Going to the doctor usually necessitates me bringing EVERYONE in with me (to pick up every virus floating around - we've been sick every week since November), which I really want to avoid if I can!
Has anyone frozen off a wart? What happened to it as it healed? Did it itch, etc? Thanks for any thoughts, prayers, and advice. This is consuming my thoughts more than it should right now, I fear.

itching is usually a sign of healing.. what you might want to do is use a pen and draw around the swollen/red area so that you'll be able to accurately determine if swelling is going up or down.

We must be wart challenged here, because we couldn't even get it to stay on! Maybe we need another brand.
It looks no worse, no better today -- well, maybe a little more dried up from the freezing. We're praying and visualizing a healthy toe!

Oh well!
FWIW I had a terrible time with painful warts on the bottoms of my feet during my third pregnancy and NONE of the foot doc's treatments worked (including freezing with liquid nitrogen and burning with acid). But about a year later, long after I had given up on doing anything about them, they just disappeared on their own.

warts are... viral I think.. and can come and go
perhaps something that could help the body fight them off more as well?
The thread on measles/swine flu has antivirals listed.

The problem with warts, is they are a virus, but they are only in the uppermost layers of your skin, so your body doesn't recognize them as a threat, and so doesn't try to fight them. That is why they are so tough to treat.
I am having an issue with them right now on my hands. I have had them frozen at my dr's but with little result (i will lose one and get two more in its place.)

Do you think I should soak a piece of cotton ball and hold it on with a band-aid, or do you think just applying would be enough?
I haven't tried TT or lavendar oil yet - just apple cider vinegar. Didn't seem to do much.
I am attempting a duct tape trial now. Do you have any idea how ridiculous my hands look with silver tape spots all over them?

at the silver spots.. they have colored duct tape at a store here.. you could get red or blue or yellow or brown
I don't know if you'd want to use the cotton ball or not.. I'm thinking not.. but maybe just reapply it often (don't reuse whatever you apply it with either.. well fingers but wash them )

The body will eventually throw them off. It can take time, though, like Sara experienced.

Well I only had a wart once, which became stubborn and painful. I was at college. My Mom talked to our old (wise) pediatrician about it. He said the regular acid kit in the pharmacy will do, BUT it is important to surround the wart with a circle of vaseline or A&D ointment before applying the acid. After applying the acid, cover the wart completely with the vaseline. This apparently suffocates it. I followed his advice religiously and it fell off within a week. There was completely new skin underneath and I haven't had a wart since! That vaseline suffocation trick really worked for me.
Prayers for beautiful new skin!

I had them on my hand as a teenager. The main one was on the web of my right hand thumb. They were all up on my thumb and traveling up my first finger. I didn't try to get rid of them because they didn't bother me much, but they did itch a little. Well, the main one started to bug me a little more and I would pick at it and scratch at it and one day I picked a little blackish thing out of it. A week or two later I noticed that they were all gone. And I haven't had them since. I've heard of a root or seed for warts, so maybe that was it.
I hope this can help someone out there.

For my son's warts, we put a banana peel on it for a couple of weeks and it went away. It was a simple, painless way to get rid of the wart. I don't know why it worked, but it definitely did! I had read it in a book.
God bless,
Christine
