Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

For the past three months I haven't had a period. When my son was born he nursed well for about three weeks and then he seemed turned off of the breast milk. I tried for four months to remedy this, but in the end I was so exhausted and my health was doing poorly (a reoccurring problem came out of a two year remission)and he was losing too much weight that I put him on formula. The thing is during the nursing I was getting what I presumed to be a period and when I stopped nursing it discontinued.
I haven't had a period since and I've taken four negative P-tests (I'm thorough ).
I haven't seen a doctor because I'm afraid that they will miss something if I don't know what I should ask. Also my doctors always take my seemingly relaxed nature (I stress seemingly) as an indication that nothing is wrong no matter how badly I feel. I get so discouraged when I go there.

I figure they will test my hormone levels can you think of anything else I should be concerned of?
Has anyone had this happen?
FWIW I'll be 40 next month, but I'm sure I'd go through a peri-menopause before the real thing and noone in my family has had symptoms this young (not saying I couldn't be the first).
Thanks.

They should also test your thyroid function. An underactive thyroid can make your cycles anovulatory and very irregular. Also, a lot of hypothyroid symptoms are similar to post partum symptoms (extreme fatigue, hair loss, etc.), so they can sometimes be disregarded as "normal" post partum symptoms.

Good luck--I hope you get some answers!

Lisa,
Thank you. I'll take your suggestions with me to the doctor's office. I hadn't even thought of thyroid as a possibility.

Thanks.

Are you still lactating?   You might still have high prolactin levels which could also make you cycle MIA.
