Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Elizabeth kindly recommended this postpartum tea that my beloved ran straight out to the health food store to obtain.

I made it like I do my Cain's tea - like a pot of coffee with my cheap coffee maker.

I know, I know, the horror of improperly made tea right?

Well the problem is that it can't "steep" that way and thus my tea is very tasty, but somewhat watered down. I tried just squeezing the tea containing coffee filter, but that didn't work out well either.

So how do I make tea that doesn't come in the little pre-formed bags? Do I need special equipment?

Be detailed because I'm a visual learner and have never in my life made a cup of tea that didn't come in a tea bag before. Even then, I just pop the tea bags in the coffee filter section of the coffee maker and hit brew.

Thank you in advance for removing my ignorance on this issue.

tea balls are very inexpensive. Any grocery store should have them, or the-place-that-sells-everything. Like a dollar or two for the cheap ones (you can always find more expensive ones, I am sure.). It is a little meshy screen ball and you just put the bulk tea in. Like a reusable tea bag :)

Also, Adagio Teas sells empty tea bags that you can fill yourself. I am sure others do too, but I really like Adagio.

Another thing with teas - proper water temperature is kinda important, depending on the tea. I couldn't get the link to work, so I am not sure what kind you have.

I probably should add - there are also tea cups that come with inserts, like a built in tea strainer. There are lots of ways to do it actually. I am just thinking, for quickness sake, you want to get a tea ball.

just tie it up in your coffee filter and drop into the pot of hot water.

or you can just dump the tea in the water and then strain through a strainer or a coffee filter.

What Jodie said. If you use a separate tea pot (besides the one you heat your water in), "scald" it by rinsing out the inside with boiling water, then put your water into the teapot. Then add your tea (loose, tea ball, tea bags, twisted into a coffee filter) and let it steep - don't be impatient!

I was an exchange student in Ireland and we scalded the teapot, dumped in our loose tea, added water, steeped and poured. Loose tea sank to the bottom of each teacup. Not a big deal.
