Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I have one of these suckers on the palm side of my wrist. It's pretty big I suppose. My brother, a radiologist, told me over New Year's that's it's "huge and gross". That's my only professional opinion so far!

Anyways, over the last 24hrs it's gotten even bigger and painful. So I'm going to try to get the doctor's somehow in the next day or so.

I've read on the net it can be aspirated, but with a 50% recurrence rate. It can be excised too. But of course that has side effects including stiffness in the joint. That would be a bummer as it is my writing hand.

So...anyone had one before and had removed or aspirated? How did it go?

My friend had one. Her doctor told her she could drop a heavy book or two on it to squash it. How's that for self-help and healing?

I can't remember if she got it lanced or not...but it didn't come back.

I had one about the same place as yours. I slammed it against a table and it burst. Hasn't come back and it's been ten years. Not advice; just an anecdote

I had one on the underside of my finger at the joint. It actually went away on it's own. Bursting it sounds painful to me, but I'm a wimp.    I'd go for the doctor appt. Mine hasn't come back either.

My dh wants to slam it, I think he'd get way more pleasure than me! My brother told me I could slam it too. I'm a wimp though...it hurts just sitting here. Maybe I can suck it up.

Now I have to go look this up (I haven't got the foggiest what they are, much less what you should/could do with/for/to one...

Hope you get rid of it, it never ever comes back, and this all becomes a "did that really happen?" memory for you!

Rachel

My daughter had a big one at 17--and that was the recommendation--slam it with a big book--it worked--but I left the house when they did it

Because slamming these cysts with a heavy book sometimes makes them burst and go away, they are also called "Bible cysts". I've had a small on the inside of my wrist, which went away several days after it was aspirated -- I think it took a while for all of the fluid to finish escaping through the hole from the needle the doctor used. Last winter I developed a rather large ganglion cyst on the back of my hand/wrist. It was very painful, and the attempt at aspiration was unsuccessful. I had to wear a wrist brace, which helped a lot with the pain because the other parts of my hand and wrist were no longer rubbing the area. Eventually it just went away; no idea why, but I am grateful. For the last day or two I've been using the brace again because the pain is coming back although there is no visible cyst.

I'd see what the doctor has to say. Hopefully his evaluation won't be as uninhibited as your brother's!

Peace,
Nancy

I've had recurring ones for the past 12 years. Mine get bigger, burst and drain, move around as the sac fills up again... I actually think I now have two on my right wrist. I'm supposed to go into the doctor so they can have a hand specialist look at it, but it's not causing me any problems right now, so...

I think the chief concern is that in some positions they may cause nerve damage.
