I was home last evening when my right hand all of a sudden started to feel numb like it had gone to sleep - half of my face too and it was like I could not think properly for a minute. I also had an awful headache.
It didn't last long at all - maybe 15 minutes - I ate and then felt much better. But it was a little scary and was wondering if anyone has had anything similar? I feel fine this morning...I have had a bit extra stress this season (neighborhood court stuff coming up Dec. 23rd - can you believe it??? ).
And I always wind up skipping meals at this time of year...maybe a combination?

Okay, I don't want to scare you, but it sounds like a transient ischemic attack (TIA). You need to see a doctor. If it is a TIA, in and of itself it is not dangerous but it can sometimes be a sign or symptom of something more serious. I will pray for you.

It could be a TIA. Also, do you suffer from Migraines? Migraines can have all sorts of weird symptoms. I have lost vision in one eye. They thought it was a TIA, but it was a migraine. It happened mostly when I go w/o sleep or food. I agree with Philothea - call your doctor. Will pray for you.

I had something similar to this 3 years ago. I had numbness in the right side of my face and the left side of my body and an agonizing headache for over a month and a half. I also couldn't think clearly. I was hospitalized for 4 days and admitted to the stroke unit where many tests were run, but luckily nothing was found. The neurologist suspected a brain stem tumor because of the numbness on both sides of my body, but after a CT scan, 2 MRI's and a spinal tap, he diagnosed me with an unexplained neurological virus and I was released. This lasted for about 6 weeks. I still get numbness once in a while, but not as bad as before.
I would go see someone if this happens again. You're in my prayers.

Thank you for the prayers - I really don't think it was anything serious - dh also thinks it was a food thing - we ate at a pancake breakfast at Church that morning and then I had snacks at a women's group meeting.
I was doing a bit of research and I never knew MSG could be in cake mixes! I forget that not everyone bakes from scratch . I think maybe eating only prepared food and then basically skipping lunch while we did a bunch of running around had an effect. The food thing also makes sense with the migraine connection.
I wasn't clear when I said "half my face" - so from the TIA info I read I could see where that would be alarming - it was the bottom half - not a side - all around my mouth and chin.
But if anything happens like that again I will not delay a visit to the dr.
Ruth - how very frightening - and what a frustrating diagnosis!
In any case it has been a strong reminder to slow down a bit and make sure I take care of myself!
