Anyone suffer from gallstones?
I had my first attack with this last pregnancy.
Awful...
They want me to have it removed, which, honestly, when in the middle of an attack I feel like I could do myself right then and there...but I'd like to wait until the baby is a little older. My midwife recommended some kind of cider vinegar/olive oil cure? Anyone have any success with anything like this? I'm pretty leary of how well something like that would really work...but don't really want to have pain for months.

honestly? I tried all the natural remedies and suggestions, avoided all types of food, etc.
Nothing helped until they took it out. I could go for weeks feeling better, but then would have an attack, that was just horrible.
Pregnancy often makes gallbladders go haywire. My second pregnancy messed mine up, but then it seemed to get better after delivery so I didn't have it out and it seemed fine. But then, during the next pregnancy, it messed up again, and I was in agony, but couldn't have it out until after I had my daughter. It was really, really bad.
Trust me, I hate the idea of surgery. But I am not sorry I have had mine out (I have had a few "phantom" attacks even with it out, but nothing like what I went through before.)

Melanie,
I had a dear friend who had a severe gallstone attack after birth and they had her scheduled to have it removed - she delayed it in order to go to a natropath who gave her particular herbs (I think that was what was used) to shrink it down - this was successful and the operation was cancelled and she has been fine now these last 5 years since.
Sometimes these things come to surgery but if you do have time up your sleeve, I'd see a natural practioner who can prescribe something to help while there is a chance.

I would be very skeptical about that lemonjuice/vinegar and oil cure.. I've also read that the supposed "stones" you see after this are made up of... the lemonjuice/vinegar and whatever oil you used.
BUT more reliably.. I have heard of herbs and vitamins/minerals that can shrink the stones.. when I looked into it the main herbs I was finding were mints but there's more now. and I'be found with checking kidney stones that often stones or other types of minerals not staying "in solution" in the body are caused by an imbalance in those.

My aunt just did two liver flushes and got out 1000 stones each time. I just finished my second liver flush while pregnant and flushed out 65 very small stones (20 the first time).
I highly recommend "The Amazing Liver and Gallbladder Flush" by Andreas Moritz (you can find it on Amazon). Everything you take is natural, and it's relatively simple to do. The liver flush I did used apple juice, epsom salts, and olive oil & orange juice/lemon juice mix.
The author of the book I mentioned had painful gallbladder attacks and lots of different health problems, but was determined to find a natural way to deal with the stones. The method outlined in his book is the most effective one he found. He achieved great success with it and flushed out 1000's of stones while getting rid of his health problems. In the book Moritz also gives the downsides of not having a gallbladder.
If at all possible, I encourage you to undergo a liver flush.

I found one called THe Amazing Liver Cleanse by the same author at the library...think I'll check that out and see. I think I'll give this a shot. I am afraid just of what was mentioned earlier, that I'll get pregnant again and it'll get worse and I'll be stuck without even surgery for an option!

Just be careful with the flushes. Please. I go to a Homeopath, and I also see an alternative med doc along with my regular DO. So I don't have anything against alternative methods, or natural medicine, or anything like that. I have just read many, many things that lead me to believe that the components of the flush are what you are actually passing, and not any actual stones. And - and this was my main concern when I thought about doing it - because the pain does get bad enough where you will consider anything, I know - If the flush DOES work, and if you have a large stone, and it gets stuck in your bile duct, you may end up with emergency surgery. So just please be careful, okay?
