My almost 11mo has a yeast rash on her neck that just. won't. go. away. She has had it for at least 6 weeks and maybe even as long as 2 months. I think that perhaps it came from a round of antibiotics (for each of us) back at the end of Feb. But how she got it is not important now, getting rid of it is.
Since the beginning of Apr I have been using anti fungal creams faithfully twice a day on it. I have tried 2 different kinds. Both times I started the creams the rash cleared completely in days only to come back a day or two later. I always wash and thoroughly dry (gently of course) the area before putting on the cream. I hydrate the skin with Eucerin when it seems dry (most of the time) and if it is moist I will dry it usually by blowing on it (I don't like powder, it makes it too dry). After fighting with it for a couple of weeks I decided to crack open some probiotic capsules that I have in order to give them to her. Well, that was a bad idea as she is allergic to milk and they contained milk (allergy wasn't diagnosed at the time). I have been taking probiotics myself, but have been afraid to give her anything else. I did order some hypoallergenic probiotics yesterday and I will start giving them to her when they come.
This poor baby also suffers from eczema that flares up from time to time. I am beginning to wonder if it isn't in some way related to the yeast. The yeast rash is only on the neck. She doesn't have anything in her diaper area. She might have something behind her knees, but it is hard to tell if it is just the eczema.
Has anyone else experienced this? I can't help but think there is something else going on with my lo. Otherwise she is a normal baby except that she really only ate solids for the first time the other night. Before that she would just put it on the floor instead of in ther mouth. She had no interest at all.

Ask your MD about Dr. Jack Newman's All Purpose N*pple Cream (scroll down a bit and you'll see the info). It is a prescription that you will have to fill at a compounding pharmacy. It has been my miracle medicine for well over 3 years now. You can use it everywhere, not just for n*pples. If it is infact thrush, or yeast, this will do the trick!

Fungal infections thrive in moist areas. Try the topical treatment again maybe applying a few days after clear then keep it dry. No cream for awhile. Corn starch works better then baby powder just pat a little bit on the area. Especially has it gets hotter keep the area open if you can. -Annie

I second Rebecca's recommendation. You can get baby acidophilus here. Good luck! It worked a miracle when our baby got a terrible yeast infection while I was on an antibiotic after she was born.

Thanks for the recommendations. Yesterday her neck was totally clear. But as I expected it is back this AM  I spoke to the ped yesterday and he has us going to a pediatric dermatologist next week. I asked him about giving her some probiotics, but because of her previous reaction he said I shouldn't. Maybe I will take them with me when we go to the dermatologist and see what he says. I just don't understand why it goes away only to come back within 24 hrs or so. Just when I get my hopes up the little red bumps appear again She itched so much during the night. I just would love for this child to know what it feels like to not be itching all the time. To top it off, her eczema flared up on her legs last night after spending time playing outside yesterday.

I know that there is a fairly effective "anti-yeast diet" that one can do for about a month or so, that can help with providing a bodily environment where yeast cannot live. I don't know if you are interested in that. You would have to do it too, if you are bf-ing. I've done this diet periodically when yeast-related stuff comes up. Also during the diet, you take some supplements like Collodial silver, and Neem, both of which have strong anti-fungal properties, Neem especially.
I don't know if this is helpful or not.

You may need to get a prescription such as Nystatin from your doc. When you use the prescription, you have to make sure to KEEP using it for awhile even after the rash appears to have cleared up. So, it may look as if it is better in a few days with treatment, but then it will come back again with a vengence if you don't keep applying it for at least a week or so after symptoms disappear. That may be why it is returning. There are also new yeast rashes that are more tenacious and resistant to treatment. So, yours may definately require a prescription. (The Nystatin was only $1.06 after insurance...) Anyway, are you sure it is not a staph infection? Something else to consider given the area. My friend's baby had a staph infection under his chin area that didn't go away quickly.
Also, a nurse friend on mind told me to dry the yeast area with a blow dryer (not set on super hot obviously, but a comfortable temp) to completely dry the area out prior to putting any ointment on it.
Good luck!! My daughter is just getting over a yeast infection on her rump due to a course of antibiotics for an ear infection, so I know how annoying this can be!!! & nbsp;

Just a question - how do you know it is a yeast rash and not eczema - what is the difference in the way it looks? I am sure the derm will be able to tell.

You know, I have no idea. The reason I think it is yeast, or some fungus, is that whenever I start a treatment of anti fungal cream the skin clears up within a couple of days. But then it always comes back. Here is my last 2 weeks with this. On May 3 I started a stronger OTC anti fungal cream. By May 6 her skin looked markedly better, nearly perfect. May 7 redness and little bumps came back. By May 9 it was full blown. All the while I continued with the anti fungal cream 2x/day. On May 13 it was basically gone again only to come back on May 14. But, for the past 3-4 days she has been itching so much. I decided yesterday to give her skin a break and haven't put any anti fungal cream on her since yesterday AM. Since then, her skin has been fairly itchy, but no worse than it was the previous 3 days and the skin itself looks so much better. It is hardly red at all.
So, I am writing all this to say, I have no idea what is going on now. I was pretty convinced that it was fungal given that it would respond to the cream. I always continued with the cream even when her skin would clear up. It was never clear for more than 24 hours. Is it possible that the anti fungal somehow was damaging her skin? Her skin is *so* sensitive. I just don't know. Thanks for reading and for the ideas you have given me.

We went to the dermatologist on Thur, and the stuff on her neck is eczema. So, all along I was putting that anti fungal on her and it wasn't fungal  , at least not the whole time. I guess there is a possibility it was fungal at some point, but we will never know for sure. We got a steroid cream to put on her eczema when it flares. We also have to try and find triggers, but the dr said that that can be very hard as I am sure those of you with eczema (or children with eczema) know. We go back in about 6 wks to see how things are going.
