Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We are going to Peru on a mission and I'm not sure yet what vaccines are required. My youngest is almost three and is up to date on immunizations. Next child (I suppose unless he/she is born in the foreign country) I'd like to hold off at least until the child is more hearty (age?) IF immunizing.

All of my kiddos have been vaccinated (cringe). For those of you that don't... what would you do if you traveled to a foreign country?

My father is from Peru and I spent most of my childhood traveling there nearly every year. I can only think of one year that we had to get immunized with something other than what we all already had from regular vaccines, but it was ssoooo long ago I can't remember. I suppose it depends where you are going in country. Cholera was a big problem, I think it may be endemic in some places so never drink the water unless its been boiled/bottled. At my grandfather's house we even kept boiled pitchers of water in the bathroom to brush our teeth with. You need to remember this as well at restaurants, as in no ice in your drinks. I would say your kids should be fine.

That said, even when I was a older and as an adult I always had a little GI distress for the first few days. Nothing major, just annoying and uncomfortable.

I'm so happy you will get to know a place I love very much. It is my other home and I miss it every day. God bless your family and your work. I'll be praying.
