Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Does anyone have experience of this? I went for a skin biopsy on Monday and had a terrible reaction - they used Latex gloves. Looking at the pattern of the hives/rash - it has suddenly hit me that latex could be contributing to all these problems I have. (My ob and my dentist both do not use latex)- it would explain so many things.

What is latex in?

Everything!

this is a short list.

more info

I was just reading this article in WSJ the other day.

I hope you can track it down.

I have a mild reaction to latex, but after they asked me in the hospital, they changed the surgery to non-latex. But I think one bandage still had latex and I got a horrible reaction to it. Still have scars from it.

Oh gosh, Marilyn, it would be such a relief to isolate the cause to this, wouldn't it? Praying for you.

My sister has a latex allergy. As well as the obvious (rubber gloves, bandages, etc.) be careful about bananas, avocados and kiwi fruits. The proteins in those foods are similar to the proteins in latex and so can also cause allergic reactions. My sister can't eat bananas or kiwi, but she can eat avocados.

Doctor/Dental offices are much better these days about having non-latex products available. My sister went into anaphalytic shock in the dentist's office when she was 6 or so -- she has a pretty severe allergy that was unknown before that dental visit.

Sorry that you have to deal with this!

I have put in a call to the allergists office to see if I can be tested soon for latex allergy. I am also worried about the baby. I am doing a very slow food introduction - the foods he has reacted to are banana, avocado, apricot and apple (3 of which have latex connections) - he is also getting little bumps around the legs and waist of his disposable diapers (latex) and he has reacted to products with apricot oil.

On a site Jenn sent me - it said that eczema, hives and eye problems are typical symptoms of latex allergy. Maybe I am just over-reacting and trying to find a reason for my problems. I am an "atopic individual" anyway - eczema and allergies - but not to the extent of the last few months.

It was 4ladsmom who started my train of thought - she asked if I was allergic to my glasses..

Please pray that I can find out one way or the other.

Oh Marilyn, this sounds almost hopeful that perhaps you may be narrowing this down finally! My prayers are that clear solutions are forthcoming and you may begin to see your way out of this. Storming heaven for you!

I have this too -- as well as an allergy to nickel -- so when I go in for any kind of procedure I have to tell them (sometimes repeatedly) to use a nickel-free needle for the IV and non-latex (I think it's paper tape) tape else I get the rash (and sometimes little welts exactly where the needle/tape was )

Hope this is all it is -- because altho it's a pain to have to remember/double-check on, at least it's fairly minor.

Praying dear!

My oldest dd & I both have a latex allergy. We get rash/welts/redness whenever it touches our skin...

For her kidney surgeries they have to do all kinds of prep in the OR due to that....
