Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Has anyone taken a low dose (10mg) of prednisone when nursing. I have been advised to - and I am panicking as I have never taken oral steroids and I am so scared of side effects. Also I have a baby nursing round the clock. I will be calling my pediatrician to check before I decide too.

thanks

I did, with no obvious effects on my daughter. I consulted with the local children's hospital's lactation consultant, who had a copy of Medication and Mother's Milk for reference.

I haven't had experience with this in particular, but a cousin of mine had to have her gall bladder removed about 6 weeks after giving birth. She had several meds and she had to do some pumping. But she didn't have to pump all the time, just the nursing that would have come right after she took her medicine.

Anyways, it made me think and I found this link about prednisone.

Marilyn,

You might try calling a La Leche League Leader in your area and asking her to give you information on how prednisone might affect a nursing infant.

When I was a Leader, all Leaders in our state had a copy of Medications and Mother's Milk. As Leaders, we could not give mothers reccommendations about whether or not they should take any particular medication, but we could give them all the information we had on the medication so the nursing mother could make an informed decision.

If the LLL Leader herself does not have a copy of this resource, PM me and I can get you the info you need from a Leader in my area. :)

Dawn
