Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

When I was younger, upper elem to middle school, I always woke up with crusty/sandy eyelids. I was/am such a picker, I'd pick it all out and lose a bunch of eyelashes in the process (now if you look close I have bald spots!)

Well, in the past 8 months or so, this has come back for some reason. I don't wear makeup, so that can't be a cause. Actually I'm not so concerned with the cause, I just wish there was a nice way (other than scratching and picking) to clear it up. I end up scratching at them through the day that I end up with red rims around my eyes...someone might think I'm on something

My oldest ds has a bit of this problem too!

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!!!

have you tried gently washing them? maybe holding a warm damp washcloth on them for a minute to soften it.. and then using lots of water rather than lots of rubbing.. wash them off?

That was my dh's suggestion...and it does kind of work. It definitely softens them...but by the end of the day, it's hard again. So it does buy me some relief for a part of the day.

Maybe I should just make time to wash my face (or at least my eyes) a couple of times a day.

Kacky, I was getting this through my pregnancy. My eyes were dry and then crusty. I talked about the remedy here. I'll pm you his instructions. The warm compresses and massage of the glands is the most important part.

Another thing that mom used to do with one of my brothers who had that problem -- rub vaseline on your lids just before going to bed. It seemed to cut down on the crust and the gook that was there rubbed right off. Definitely use a warm wash cloth each morning.

Hi! I struggled with this same problem as a kid and they always gave me some sort of vaseline/ointment to put on. Many years later, since I still have this, a doc told me to just use baby shampoo! I put a little on my hand, and mix it with a little water, squeeze my eyes shut of course, and scrub away, gently, for a minute or so and then rinse. I only have to use the shampoo once or twice a week maybe, and I never have any trouble with it anymore. Since it is baby shampoo, it is "no more tears.? (Make sure you actually USE a no more tears type of course. ) This was the most effective thing I have tried, and I tried a lot of stuff!! Hope this helps.

With all the recent eye problems and research I have done I could write you a book - but in short:

- warm compresses twice a day
- lid scrubs with diluted baby shampoo
- take an omega 3 supplement
- rub evening primrose oil into the lids
- take a probiotic

..of course with expecting you may need to check on the supplements

Thanks Marilyn! I did start the baby shampoo which does seem to work better than just doing the warm compresses by themselves (which is what I had tried).

I hope you are doing well??!!
