Can anyone offer advice on boosting one's immunity? Foods, supplements, strategies, good books or websites - *anything*? I've been feeling run down since Thanksgiving and I just can't shake this infection. My family (especially dh) needs me in top shape again!
Any tips?

Dawn,
I'm thinking Michael might be right about Kombucha and it definitely would be appropriate given the warnings you got about the antibiotic and your need for probiotics...
I'm so sorry this has been such a long haul for you.

The first thing to do is to cut out sugar and refined carbs (white flour, bread, pasta, etc.). These wreak havoc with your immune system.
Herbal helps are echinacea, goldenseal (sort of the herbal equivalent of an antibiotic), vitamin c, and ginseng. Also, B vitamins are good for any kind of stress on the body.
Are you taking a good multivitamin? Liquid ones are the most easily absorbed. This has made a huge difference with our family.
If you need probiotics, make sure you are getting high quality live ones. Often, these are refrigerated. Flora Five is very expensive but I have found it to be the best stuff available.

I had M.E. and for about eight years was almost always either sick, recovering or coming down with something.
For me, taking Zinc ACE and Selenium really helped. Nowadays, even with the children doing all they can to slobber every germ in their bodies all over me when they are ill, I don't get truly ill - just under the weather and able to carry on.

Olive Leaf Extract is very good for boosting the body's immunity, Dawn.

I would highly recommend Shaklee supplements, most importantly Vita Lea with iron (which is their multi), b complex (good for physical and emotional stresses) and plenty of c (to fight infection).
You can order them from www.shaklee.com
I am sorry you have not been feeling well, Dawn. I will keep you in my prayers.

Dawn,
Sounds like everyone has given you such good recommendations so far. Would it be out of the question to see a naturopathic doctor? They might really be able to help with specific recommendations that are right for you. I second the really good multivitamin, a really good (refrigerated) acidophilus and, lastly, Emergen-C. The latter especially gives me that extra boost when I am feeling run-down.
Hope you are feeling better soon
You'll be in my prayers!

This is all such good advice - thank you, everyone. I think CK has a good point about the sugar and refined carbs. It's probably no coincidence that this infection took hold over the holidays when I eat way more than the usual sweet stuff. And get less rest, too.
