Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hello! I know that I could be imagining this, but I thought for sure that I had read in Elizabeth's blog that she avoided dairy products while pregnant/ breastfeeding. I thought that I would post this question here to see if anyone could shed some light on the matter!

Has anyone tried to go dairy free during this time? If so, did you notice any difference in your baby/ babies? My second son was diagnosed with MSPI (milk soy protein intolerance) and I had to quit breastfeeding cold turkey at 4 1/2 months due to continued blood in the stool. Praise be to God I've learned a lot since that time (regarding MSPI and elimination diets, etc.), but now that I'm expecting our third, I'm willing to try anything so that I will be able to nurse our new baby (and that he will be spared some of the pains that my last child experienced!).

Thanks so much!
Megan

Jane Zukins, Dairy Free book was a great help. As was my cousin who had the same issues and helped me with the "cheats" like Jr. Mints for a chocolate addicted mom, McDonalds hamburgers and french fries(yuck-but you have to do what you have to when traveling), and visiting the health food store for soy milk(he didn't have soy issues thank goodness)and other milk substitutes.
I did go dairy free when pregnant with dd. Her older brother was diagnosed with milk protein allergy(poor guy, same symptoms you mentioned, plus he didn't sleep, was the most unhappy baby) at about a year old. I was still nursing so had to do the "diet" too. I ate A LOT of dairy when pregnant with him.
It was a huge learning experience but made the next pregnancy easier as far as going dairy free. Dd ended up with no milk issues but allergic to eggs and peanuts and chocolate--which I ate A LOT of during her pregnancy.
Next time I will do a rotation type diet
Anyhow, ds has outgrown his milk issues. He has a limit for how much dairy he can eat safely-without GI issues. DD has outgrown eggs and chocolate(guess I didn't eat all that much) but we think she still has some peanut issues.
Hope that helps.
Anne

Thank you so much for your reply, Anne! I'm due in March, so we'll see what the "dairy-free diet" yields as far as reactions/ intolerances!

I was dairy free from the time dd2 (age 4 1/2) was 2 weeks old, until the twins (2 1/2) turned 2 - when all 3 kids passed dairy challenges!

For me, being dairy free did not eliminate the allergy in the twins, but it really was not a big deal for me. But there is research that it helps some moms and babies.

I was diary/egg/chicken/pear/nut/seafood/fish free during most of that time.

First of all - almost all store bought turkeys have dairy in them (and it does not have to labeled for because it is meat). McD's french fries DO have dairy.

Here are some yummies to get you thru the holiday.
Jr. Mints
Baker's Brand Choc Chunks (choc chip aisle)
Fleishman's unsalted margarine sticks (make pretty good cookies)
Smart Balance light
Oreos
craisins
mashed potatoes are really yummy with rice milk

If you have any specific ?? feel free to email me.
