Hi ladies,
I know some of you are dealing with GF life or have kids with it. It looks like my dc have celiac disease too... They have been regular oatmeal consumers and now that has to go.
We have rice cream, but that is only so-so. Can you recommend any other GF hot cereals such as by Bobs Red Mill? I have to buy bulk and I don't want 10 lbs+ of something the kids will not like.
Thanks,
ck

We buy Nutty Rice (I'll have to look at the maker) and put milk and raisins on it, then heat it in the microwave.

We grind our own brown rice and use it for cream of rice (much better than boxed stuff.) I imagine you could roast the rice first for an even richer flavor but haven't tried it.

You might want to check around about oatmeal and celiac disease. A close friend has a dd with celiac. They were told they could have Irish oats because there isn't the danger of factory cross contamination with wheat, like with American produced oatmeal. But they experimented with normal oats and found that her dd can tolerate it just fine. The doctor said that test results put her child in a good range for celiac numbers, so they could keep doing what they are doing with eating oatmeal every morning.

I just enjoyed a bowl of Brown Rice Cream. I also have some buckwheat cereal.
Peace,

I think you can do a hot cereal with cornmeal too.

This morning we mixed ground rice with cornmeal and it was better.
Angie, do you have a mill for grinding rice? Our food processor isn't strong enough to do rice. I guess I may have to invest in one if we're all going gf.
Thanks for the suggestions ladies. I'll look into buckwheat and nutty rice.

I do have a small hand mill, but it is currently being held hostage in my garage while we paint and rearrange our kitchen. I did a quick google search to see if I could find a picture of it online - no luck. I purchased mine over 12 years ago and it has been a great investment.
We like to cook polenta for breakfast. Leftovers become firm in the refrigerator and can be grilled or pan fried for another meal.
Love,

You can also cook quinoa hot as a cereal.

The only way my family will eat quinoa for breakfast is if I hide it in cornstarch chocolate pudding . Any other ideas for hiding grains (millet, amaranth (sp?), etc.) for breakfast?
