Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I've been reading a book called "Is This Your Child?" which is all about allergies in children. One of the things the author describes is the Rotary Diet. Has anyone ever tried this? Does it work? It seems rather complicated. Is it possible to do in a family with five kids? Just wondering. I really need to get to the bottom of what is causing ds's allergic reactions. The allergist is the next step, but he's already taking 3 medications that aren't helping. I hate to add more.

I don't know anything about a Rotation diet but..

If the meds aren't helping.. why is he still taking them?

Also, vitamin C is used up by allergic reactions.. so that the lower you get on vit. C, the worse your reactions are. I'd be giving vit. C along with anything else that was necessary. I can control my hay fever symptoms just with vit. C. And they can get pretty bad.. but I just up my dose.. rarely do I have to go over 4000mg.

I would check what a child can tolerate in vit. C.. but remember that the RDA is only the minimum amount to prevent deficiency disease.. it is not the optimum amount.. nor the maximum amount.

We have experience in food allergies here. I'm not familiar with the rotary diet -- is it an elimination diet?

An excellent resource is www.kidswithfoodallergies.com

I didn't know that about vitamin C. As far as how much a child can take, the amount is to bowel tolerance. So if the amount causes diahrhea, lower the dose.

Probiotics also help.

We are having very good luck with a rotation diet here. We did have to go 2 months with a low allergen diet, and then start rotating in high allergen foods. Less time just wasn't enough to get the proteins out of our system. We rotate on a 5 day schedule. I would be happy to share my menus with you, if you'd like.
