Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I read all the topics that turned up for constipation but need a little more help... Has anyone had trouble with constipation in little babies? My firstborn had lots of trouble with this, but I was working and she had formula and started solids (too) early and we struggled for a long time with laxatives and suppositories and it was horrible. She still has very slow bowels, but at age 5, she isn't afraid to go anymore (she's just gotten used to it). I thought I messed her up, but now I have a baby boy (8 months old) who I've nursed exclusively, I give him a sippy cup with water in it that he drinks throughout the day and he is having trouble with slow bowels (he MIGHT go twice a week, but it's usually only once). It is getting worse and I don't want to go through all this again! He eats a little bit of pear twice a day but spits out peaches, apricots and especially prunes. I don't want to add Miralax to his water or use suppositories if I don't have to. Any suggestions?

My daughter had difficulty with constipation as an infant. She was clearly uncomfortable, had a lot of nasal congestion and we saw lots of green in her diaper. She was also exclusively nursed (until around 10 months). I removed all dairy from my diet when she was around three months old, and her discomfort disappeared.

She is still dairy intolerant now (nearly 6yo), which I understand is fairly unusual but is, in our case, probably genetic.
