Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi ladies,
I could just use some advice or sharing of experiences....I'm bleeding and John Paul is only 7 weeks. Is it a period? I've always had quite a bit of nursing infertility - like for at least a year!!

He's completely breastfed. He doesn't go all night without eating. He sleeps with us. We do use the pacifier in the car when we can't get him to settle otherwise. He really doesn't like it.

I'm just completely befuddled. This is the second day of a little heavier flow. So I guess I'll wait it out and see if it continues or slows down. Thanks for listening and sharing your thoughts.

Happens to me every time. It's not a fertility sign. It's a sign you're doing too much. Slow down and put your feet up--literally--for several hours a day.

I've had it both ways. With #1 I had hemorrhaged (sp?) minutes after delivery and bled for 9 weeks at least. Some days things would slow down, but then with increased activity the flow would increase. With #5, everything had stopped at 4 weeks, then at 5 weeks started again. I hadn't been especially active, so I was concerned. Called the OB, was told, "Maybe it's a period. Wait and see if it repeats in 4 weeks.", which it did. Like you, completely breastfeeding, not even a pacifier.

So, try backing off your activity level and see if it slows down; ease back into your *real life* more slowly. AND, wait and see if it comes back in 4 weeks. I do hope you've been taking good care of yourself; it's hard with other littles to run after, I know.

Peace,
Nancy

Hi Angela,

This is from The Art of Natural Family Planning by John and Sheila Kippley (co-founders of the Couple to Couple League)

Art of Natural Family Planning, Chapter 25, p. 356 wrote:

The Bellagio Consensus: Fully or nearly fully breastfeeding women who are not menstruating have less than a two percent chance of becoming pregnant in the first six months postpartum. . .The scientists at the Bellagio conference also agreed that when a mother was fully or nearly fully breastfeeding, any bleeding in the first 56 days [postpartum] could be ignored, i.e. that she should not consider it to be her first postpartum period.

I agree with Elizabeth and Nancy...try to rest more and put your feet up! Not easy for a mom of many!

Feel free to pm if you have any more specific questions I could help you with. I am certified to teach the sympto-thermal method of NFP through CCL.

Dawn
