I thought this might be of interest to some of you regarding the whole sugar diet / industry etc.
dh & I watched this doc one or two yrs ago and it totally blew us away .It was in two parts .I found the first the most touching and interesting as it mostly followed a priest ( think he was from Ireland ) in the Domminican Republic . He visits all the plantations yes they still exist and they are just like those of the deep south . It was scary and freaky this goes on . I was in tears just bawling as they followed a man and his children while thier mother died during the doc. they are not allowed to grow thier own food and are forced to purchase from the plantantion stores as they cannot leave the plantations legally . Just heart breaking stuff .
It showed a ton on sugar consumption in North america and talked alot about sugar in the schools etc.
I have tried to locate Fr. Hartly from the doc to try and send some type of support but have had no luck finding a connection as of yet .
I stronly urge you to watch and purchase the video if you can and pass on the news etc. if we can locate the wonderful mission priest it be a very good mission to send aide to that is for sure .

Roxie - I tried the link because I'm very interested, but I can't get anywhere with it. Could you check it for me? Or maybe just a keyword, name of the documentary, the name of the publisher and I can try to google it.

Hi Jennifer , I just did a google search under big sugar and the cbc site came up right away

there is also a band called big sugar and I got that by mistake .
I beleive it is Brian McKenna is the writer / director he is known world wide for his great doc works
   from the cbc site it says gala films is the distributor http://www.galafilm.com/galafilm/e/tv/sugar.php
of all the items amazon carries I tried a search and nothing came up
We are not totally off sugar but it really opened our eyes to this trade . I hope I can locate that priest somehow . I wouldn't hesitate to send aide to help him . In fact ds 19 would love to go help with that mission . I'm going to keep trying .
Keep praying too the Domminican is where Donald trump is building his latest big golf resort complex thingy .

Thanks Roxie - I got to it no problem. We haven't eliminated sugar totally, but a lot of it is gone! More for health reasons though. I'm interested in learning more about this. Thank goodness for honey
