I will try this again, since the internet ate my previous post.
I am looking for a good hand moisturizer. My daughter and I both have very dry skin around our fingernails. Since we both tend to pick instead of clip, our fingers are regularly red and raw.
Can anyone recommend a good moisturizer with a nice smell but not overpowering. Something that won't leave you feeling greasy.
I am also looking for a good face moisturizer for me, but that is not "remedy"... just vanity!

I know exactly what you mean. The *picking* turns to *ripping* and then the result takes a long time to heal up. In the meantime my hands look very unattractive.
My favorite product for helping with this is Burt's Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream. The tin it comes in is very small, but you only need the tiniest bit. And the smell is very pleasant.
Peace,
Nancy

We have used some Burt's Bee's when my husband had poison ivy and the smell was anything but nice! I will give the cuticle creme a try if you promise it won't attract skunks!

How about a good coconut oil? They are not liquid at room temp.
Personally, I have learned NOT to put ANYTHING on my skin that I would not eat! Things are absorbed through the skin. Try this really neat experiemtn- i did and was amazed!
Thinly slice a clove of garlic. Put it iun you sock (mostly under the arch of your foot). Within 20 minutes or so, you will be able to taste garlic in your mouth!
Yours in Christ,
Kathy

I would look for some unrefined shea butter. That stuff does wonders for your yucky, cracked, and dry skin. I love unrefined shea butter. It does have a bit of a smokey scent to it though.
I make a lovely calendula balm. It's very healing and you don't need alot. Just check out my link in my signature if you're interested.
As for the moisturiser I also make a nice facial serum. I have normal skin and it's just the right amount for me. Not to mention it likes to hide those fine lines. (not making any claims). It's made with pure olive squalene and helichrysum and neroli essential oils. It's at my other website. www.carmelsoaps.com
I hope I didn't overstep any bounds.

Ostrich oil products are worth a try. Wond-a-Bar is at our local grocery store (Hy-Vee) but also available online.

I don't know what Burt's Bees poison ivy soap smells like. The cuticle cream is just very nice, fresh and lemon-scented.
Peace,
Nancy

Well, I wouldn't eat it, but I really like thisGold Bond Therapy Lotion. It's not the medicated Gold Bond, and I've had really good results with it.

I have the same kinds of problems with my hands. In the winter, it's really bad and I don't live in a very cold climate (Texas). I use Neutrogena Hand Cream. I only use it at night before I go to bed b/c it is a little greasy. However, it does make a big difference. I just recently tried an Aveda hand lotion and really like it.

I make a hand cream with shea butter and avocado oil. I really like the healing of the avocado and the moisturizing of the shea.

When postpartum with ds #2, I discoverd this to help my cracked hands from so much hand washing in winter (all those diapers )
Its Burt's Bees Almond Milk Beeswax Hand Creme.
It smells great and does wonders for my hands (including that dry skin around my nails!)
HTH,
Erica

Thank you for all the suggestions. I might try the Burt's Bees first simply because they have a huge display in our local drug store. You gals are great!

Matilda, I use Curel hand lotion (fragrance free). I have never found anything to leave my hands so moisturized yet not greasy. I keep two pumps in the house - one in the kitchen and one by my bedside.

My hands used to be horrible. I used to sleep with all kinds of diff't lotions/cream/moisturizers and mittens on them at night, UNTIL......
Awakening HANDS
I love this stuff. The bottle lasts forever....you only use a tiny bit. It smells like cinnamon/ginger. It is all over the place around here in all the gardening stores.
