I was being seen by a Holistic Doctor a while back and she had me on a pretty strict diet and things seemed to be going pretty well. However, I couldn't afford the frequent visits that she required and thought I could just do this on my own anyway...so I stopped going. However I went off the diet a while back when we had a crisis in the family...couldn't buy the healthy foods and eat at home and so forth. I've been feeling really sick lately...just icky, not myself kind of stuff. I don't want to go to my regular doctor about this because I know that it will either just be dismissed, or I'll be put through the ringer with tests and then tons of meds. So I thought I'd just re-start with the diet and if that doesn't improve things then see a doctor. I'm finding it very hard to even start this time though.
Anyone here have gone through this? Any suggestions on re-starting? I guess I really need some baby steps here. What would you say would be the first thing that would have to be eliminated? What are some positive steps that I can take. I must say that we are on a very tight budget right now and can't afford to shop for specialty items and so forth.
Thanks.

Do you have Fertility Cycles and Nutrition by Marilyn Shannon? I remember she discusses yesat overgrowth and getting started on a good diet. I remember her talking about cutting out sugar as a major part of it. I wish I still had that book as it's the only place I've ever seen yeast overgrowth mentioned.
This week for my weight, I'm going to keep a food journal. I don't do it all the time, but when I have a hard time focussing on making food choices, I find the journal a good tool.
I'll pray for you!

Thanks Rachel,
I haven't read that book yet, but I'll have to check to see if my library carries it. Cutting off sugar sounds reasonable...at least 'added sugar' for now. The plan that I was originally on didn't allow any type of sugar at all...including fruit for the beginning stages..THAT is difficult.
Thanks for the prayers too...that the Lord lead me to the perfect eating plan for me. There is so much out there that I get confused sometimes and it makes it harder to even start. However I feel confident that just changing my eating will help tremendously, since it did in the past.

Taking out sugars is a biggie.
I use probiotics--maybe switching out the bad bacteria for the good would help too, if you did it in conjunction with the sugar-cut-off.
Just a thought.

http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.com/ I believe is the website for the SCD diet.. it's one designed for healing the gut. And a friend of mine who had a massive systemic yeast overgrowth has found a great deal of help with it.

There's a book that I've read called "The Yeast Connection." It's really good at explaining the symptoms of yeast overgrowth and what to cut out and recipes to cook while on their suggesting diet and such.
Sorry I don't know who the author is!

Here is a thread that might be helpful. It was started when a mother and baby had yeast overgrowth. There are many suggestions on the diet and products that will help to eliminate systemic yeast.

Wow...lots of great stuff here...thanks so much ladies. I have read 'The Yeast Connection' and I've also done the SCD diet. I'm thinking that that might be the one for me to do again. I actually found it easy once I got started. Please pray for me. I'm just sick and tired of feeling so sick and tired all the time.

Lots of fresh raw. Cost is CHEAPER than many things.
Also, even if you DO spend more for food, how much does it cost to see a doctor (or alternative practitioner?) And how much time and pain?
We eat pretty simply (and inexpensively).
Eating good food (even if spendier in terms of $) is WORTH it in better health, less doctor visits, etc.
With summer coming, you should be able to get more things, and more inexpensively.

Essy,
I am dealing with something similar too...
My recs to you are to go totally dairy free, sugar free, totally bread=yeast free, anything with yeast (vinegar, mayo, mustard, grapes). Any simple carb (white bread, pasta, white rice) will feed the candida. READ LABELS!
On the positive side, you should take acidophilus pills, and pau d'arco (herb) and garlic which kills candida. Also, psyllium husks if you are at all "clogged". You shd be able to get all of these at any good healthfood store.
The other key factor is exercise!!!! Yes, I know... I roll my eyes too! But if you can walk for 20 minutes, play soccer iwth your kids, jump on the trampoline, etc.
Exercise keeps the candida down. Something is better than nothing. Ask your hubby to help--its worth it to him for you to be well.
HTH

Hi ladies, thanks so much for the responses and the support on this...it really was what I needed to kick me back into action.
I've decided to start with following 'Sugar Busters' and then go from there. Here is a link to my blog if anyone wants to follow along. http://antiyeastdiet.blogspot.com/
Thanks again...
