As you may know, I've just found myself in the market for a SAFE children's creche. I realize that this is rather late in the game, but my children have been fondly handling the pieces of our incomplete set over the last few days and I would really like to find one suitable for use with CGS. Pardon me for being *lazy* and not pouring through my manuals/books to find the answer to this question!    For those of you familiar with CGS, what are the characteristics I should look for? I know that it should be 3-dimensional, but does it matter how many pieces it has? Does it matter if Baby Jesus is attached to the manger or not? TIA for your help, ladies!

For the youngest children (Level I Atrium; 3-6 year olds) the figures should be colorful, have faces, in other words look more like "real people". For the Birth of Jesus you need the Holy Family, a stable, and probably a couple of stable animals (donkey, ox, not tons of critters, because you are striving for "essentiality.")

The complete work is called "The Birth of Jesus and the Adoration of the Shepherds". So that tells you to have shepherds and sheep in the field, who will move in to see the Baby at the appropriate time in the reading of the text. You also need an angel to announce the birth to the shepherds.

The Baby can be attached to the manger, that's fine either way.

The Epiphany is a separate work, so you don't want the Magi at first. You do want a separate work with Magi, gifts, and a star, as well as the stable, Family, animals. You could use the basic Birth of Jesus materials, but don't bring the Shepherds to the scene. Again, essentiality. The focus of the Epiphany work is the Magi who follow a star to find the Messiah. Their wisdom is evident in that they saw the same star that was in the sky for everyone to see, yet they recognized that there was something compelling about that star, followed it, and found Jesus.
