Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I know that Montessori materials can be so prohibitively expensive, so I was pleased to see some items in the Discount School Supply catalog. I have been happy with the products, and they have free shipping over $59. I have a habit of spending the little one's birthday money from grandparents here!

These are sound boxes (occasionally doubling as maracas for the band in my house): Wooden sound boxes

Here are some weight cylinders: Weight box

Here are some nice self-correcting number peg boards: Number pegs

The little ones really like these wooden lacing shapes: Lacing animals

Wooden abacus

A wooden barn for grammar work (you would have to add animals etc.), but this is the most inexpensive wooden barn I've seen: Wooden barn

Wooden cross beads (for making big chunky rosaries with the littles): Cross beads

This is a nice sensorial game, a Blind and Find

This one also gets a lot of use: bead sequencing board

And this one's on my list for next year. Maybe I'll buy it at the same time as the child's carpet sweeper from Michael Olaf! Sand box

An all-time favorite with everyone, a great gift for a baby, because it gets played with in so many ways for many years: Locks and Latches Box

Shape sorter and Shapes and Sizes puzzles

This is a Touch and Match Board

Wooden pattern blocks at a great price.

And finally, a little Glockenspiel and a Handbell set.

I hope that helps someone. I couldn't look at their catalog becasue it was full of so much STUFF, but there are some gems in there.

I got my handbell set from a guy on ebay 8 note handbell ...it was the 8 note one...I do know that you can get the other pieces to make your own like-Nienhuis set by ordering the 8, the add on set and multiply this whole thing by two...but! I stuck with the 8 and use the on-line bells instead... Montessori Bells On line
I like Discount school supply especially for their art supplies and playground equipment!... I have been very happy with their products and service!

Oh yes! FWIW...I also really like Learning Resources! You can often find great finds in the clearance section. Suzanne Wilhelmi from Liveable Learning can order anything from there and she has free shipping and a 10% off the order discount!

Katie - Thanks for the info. I saw in another post that you made your own bead material. I would be interested in knowing where you purchased the beads and how you composed them. I want to make mine without the wire ends and for the life of me cannot think of how to do it! Kristin

Kristin,

I made the bead material using beads from Boleks beads. I used the info provided by Suzanne at her website which is jmjpublishing. It was very easy with a small pair of pliers; I did it while watching movies in the evenings and finished them quite quickly.

I hope that helps. I'm rushing off now but feel free to ask more questions.
