Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am currently reading the "Early years" book by Simply Charlotte Mason.
There is a quote of Miss Mason that I am not sure of understanding properly. Here it goes:
" Away with books and "reading to" - for the first five or six years of life. The endless succession of story-books, scene, shifting like a panorama before the child's vision, is a mental and a moral dissipation;he gets nothing to grow upon, or is allowed no leisure to digest what he gets. It is contrary to nature too" vol 5, p. 216

Can somebody paraphrase this for me? Is she saying that children's should only have access to a limit amount of good quality picture books, or they should not be read to too often?
Thank you!

Okay, here she is talking about story-telling, and letting the children imagine the scenes for themselves, as opposed to reading them picture books all the time. Also, the telling of the story from the parent will be more alive, and it might be have more or less detail at times, and the children can ask questions...

In this same section she tells us not to try to explain everything to young children, as in don't necessarily tell them the moral of a fairy tale, or don't overly explain the deeper meanings of things, as they will come to the full understand in time if they are given the time, space, and fodder.

I hope I am not adding to Charlotte Mason's meaning, but this is what I took away from the two pages I just read.
