I am considering purchasing Mother of Divine Grace kindergarten curriculum for my son who will be 5 yrs old in August. I know the answer is different from child to child but I was wondering if anyone has done this, what is their experience with this curriculum? How long of a day is it? (How long of a day is very important for me to hear.) I went to the website and called and perused the items and saw where and what they have that I need and what I have already and what my library has. My son is a very normal boy who is behind most girls in pencil grip and writing skills. He is a pre-reader and he daily tries to learn more on how to read on his own. Anyone know good or bad about this curriculum and how it might fit a child like this? My husband and I like the structure and looking at the sample syllabus it looks shorter than what I would have done if I tried to unschool him and yet it hits all the major areas. Although at least for the kindergarten area it does not have a section for science or history (perhaps they are incorporated into some other area.) My son's favorite subject is science and we do a lot of hands on stuff in that area already so it would not be a problem. Thank you!

I wish I could have other children to share this homeschooling with but alas I am a much older mom in my mid to late 40s and we looked into adoption too but we have money for day trips but adoption is just toooo expensive nowadays. And we even tried fost/adopt but at least where we live they want you to accept a lot of weird situations as normal.

I haven't used MODG, but I have also looked and looked at it!
My ds is an auditory learner, so a program with a lot of recitation and memorization is good for him.
I do use the book lists from MODG and look at the site for ideas.

You could always supplement, like you said, with lots of fun science projects and field trips. Five is still so young, and especially boys need the freedom to move around a lot.

Mary Ann Clark (Seton Homeschool) raised a passle of boys, and one thing she says over and over is that most people don't realize HOW MUCH boys need to move around. I love reading her thoughts on raising boys.
She writes a monthly newsletter that you can subscribe to online (or get a copy in the mail for a small fee).
