Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My 3yo and I have been reading Frog and Toad books together and I was thinking about starting to read a chapter book at night with him. We read picture books throughout our day also. He really looked forward to the next story about Frog and Toad and I think he may be ready to read something a little longer.

Any suggestions for a good first book like this? I was thinking about reading My Father's Dragon first.

Thank you!

That's a great first read aloud! Charlotte's Web was also a fave with my older two.

Some fun ones include all the "mouse and the motorcycle" books by Beverly Cleary - really, anything by Beverly Cleary.

Yes, we did Ramona the Pest over the summer and my 4yo boy loved it so much we finished it in a few days (bedtime only). Ramona is like the girl version of my son, so I knew he would like it.

My Father's Dragon was a favorite of my boys around that age, It is great as a first real aloud. Also a book Wolf Story that I found at Chinaberry. I think we also read a lot of Magic Treehouse books aloud when oldest ds was that age. We also read Mr. Popper's Penguins.

I second My Father's Dragon - some pictures, short chapters, moves quickly. There are 2 additional books in the series if he likes the first one.

Thank you for the suggestions! We finished My Father's Dragon a few days ago and now we're reading The Mouse and the Motorcycle while we're waiting for the second book in the dragon series to come in. Thank you!
