I bought a copy of this book at a yard sale and am sorry to say it sat on my bookshelf for nearly two years before I really sat down and looked at it. Last night I finally got it out and was kicking myself for not getting it out sooner!
Within five minutes I had copied patterns onto cardstock for Pilgrims and Indians and the Mayflower, and the kids played with them for hours today doing puppet shows (colored, cut out and mounted on craft sticks with double sided sticky tape).
Each letter of the alphabet gets a week or two, and there is a TON of activity ideas, reproducibles and suggestions to go along with each. The letter N, for example, is for Native American, and it falls in November so ties in with Thanskgiving, nuts, etc. There is a whole unit study for Native Americans, plus tons of other N activities to choose from. There is also an extensive recommended book list for each month.
The best part, I thought, was I could just pick up the book and find a fun idea without straining my brain or doing tons of prep work. There are so many suggestions to choose from for each letter.
Anyway, I see that Amazon has used copies starting at 50 cents. I would say the age range is preK up to 2-3, though you could get lots of ideas for older kids, too.

Melinda - Sorry it's taken me sooooo long to respond. I was really intrigued by your book recommendation! Would you say the illustrations are more cartoony or realistic in nature?
I'm very, very interested - especially considering the bargain price of a used copy. It would seem that it would dovetail nicely with our Along the Alphabet Path study.

I would say the illustrations are "happily realistic". Cheerful, but not cartoonish in a dumb way, if that makes sense. Ex. The pilgrim people are smiling but look pretty much like "real" pilgrims. HTH...

Yes, that makes perfect sense. It sounds good. I think I'll look for a nice used copy. Thanks very much for the review and the suggestion!

Unfortunately the 50 cent copies from Amazon have been sold. I hemmed and hawed too long! I'm keeping this on my wish list for the future, though.

I was one who purchased one. I had the same thought as Mackfam and wanted to use it with our Serendipity plans.

FYI - I think Melinda's link lets you buy a pdf download version for $3.99 if you're interested.

I wish there was something like this for math.
Now I am debating changing how I am doing things for my dd. We have just been going along down the alphabet path, but now I want to incorporate using this book since it fits so nicely with the seasons. But that would mean repeating some letters- but that can't harm, can it?
