Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

From previous threads: Teaching a Young Child to Read

Favorite SP Letters and Movable Alphabets

Kinesthetic learners do well writing befo

Early Learning

This resource Red Letter Alphabet Book and the Blue Number Book have been highly recommended as an alternative to sandpaper letters, a way to help kinesthetic learners, a good tool for learning to begin to read.

Red Letter Alphabet Book can be bought alone, too.

I didn't realize Montessori Services was offering Word Cards to go along with the Alphabet book, and now they are reduced and looks like discontinued. Just thought I would pass that resource along....

Thanks, Jenn! I may buy one of these for Charles. He strongly objects to the feel of sandpaper letters in the book I made, but he loves the felt vowels. And we are battling uphill with reading...

I love the red letter alphabet book, but I can see why the word cards aren't a hit. A child who's just learning to trace/recognize individual letters isn't going to be ready to learn words like "lizard". It's a mismatch of difficulty.

Interesting point.

I'm still on the fence with the red letter alphabet book. I'm sooo picky when a phonics book chooses to use a sound in the middle of a word to represent a sound. It's always confusing for my children, and inconsistent. My son did not appreciate inconsistency when approaching phonics particularly when there are already so many exceptions to the rule...still...I keep coming back to these and liking both the red letter and blue number books.

Oh well, my budget is gone for now, so that gives me a bit more time to consider them.

If you're using the Red Letter book like Sandpaper letters, the pictures aren't the focus, just periphery. I thought the point of the SP are to learn the phonetic sound combined with the tracing action. Having the flocked letters is just softer than the SP, and another option.

As far as the 3 part cards, I thought they were good illustrations, to be used at whatever stage would work for the child.
