Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

The ones that are all red, not the ones that are red and blue. All I can think of is to use them for showing graduated size. Are there other uses for them?

Here's the most basic presentation for them:

The Red Rods

Aside from the obvious, that a child learns to discriminate between sizes, the material is teaching other things along the way. Since it's one of the first things a child learns in 3-6, it's an exercise in following directions, holding the rods correctly (one hand on each end), and it involves what Montessori calls "purposeful movement". That is, a chance to get out the wigglies by going back and forth to the shelf for each rod one at a time, but accomplishing something in the process.

Extensions include: making a maze (start with the smallest and place each one at a right angle to the other, then the child can step through the path), and building with the pink tower, brown stair, and red rods together. These extensions should only be done once a child has demonstrated that they can correctly do each of the materials individually.

The last purpose of the red rods is to prepare the child for working with the red and blue rods; those add the element of numbers and alternating colors, but the material itself is familiar to the child, making them easy to work with.
