I realise this may be getting a little over the top, but each month I have been making a themed sensory box for my girls, along with themed playdough!!! for example, at christmas we had peppermint candy cane play dough, february is red (was going to scent with vanilla but decided to go with our ususal mandarin oil)
can anyone humour me & give me a suggestion for march (thinking easter)

I don't think that is over the top - that is an excellent and very clever idea.
What about smaller portions of different colors - think colored eggs.
Scents - can you get a lily-scented oil or fragrance? To me lily is the scent of Easter - I love it.

I love this idea!!! We are totally into homemade play dough around here- though I never thought to make it theme-related. How FUN! I like Mary's idea of lily-scented oil for March (green colored playdough for St Patrick?)
Thanks for the idea!

thankyou! I was dreading checking replies..i thought it would appear too...ott! LOL!
I usually use mandarin, as it is known as 'the childrens oil' because it calms & soothes them, but I love the idea of lily...it is Easter! I think i my be able to get a synthetic lily oil. Coloured eggs is good, as is the green. Our sensory box is going to be either oatmeal or easter grass, with little wooden eggs, & different implements (spoons, funnels, etc)
Thank you again ladies.

I really like the idea, too!
I'm intrigued about the mandarin oil. Where do you get it? I'm assuming it's non-toxic?

Kristin, mandarin oil is an essential oil that is particularly suited to children. It can be purchased from most aromatherapy stores. I get mine from
http://www.nealsyardremedies.com/
but i am in the UK.
here is some info about mandarin:
Mandarin is a strengthening and soothing oil that fosters a sense of tranquillity. It is an excellent digestive remedy. It is known on France as the "children's remedy" as it has a gentle action when used in a massage blend to relieve colic, wind and other digestive upsets. Mandarin also has a refining action on the skin and is recommended for addition to massage blends used in the later months of pregnancy to keep the skin supple and prevent stretch marks.
It should not be applied directly to the skin, but mixing in playdough, or carrier oil is fine.

Oh, for March you could anise or lavender. Lavender in CA blooms in late March and April and May. Chammoille may be good too.
I just made playdough for a chicken pox party and used different colors and scents. My daughter wanted me to do lemon but I didn't have anymore lemon e.o.
