Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

This morning I was going to present Parts of a Fish, since we're going on a field trip to the Shedd Aquarium on Wednesday. Naturally, we went into our kitchen to look at the goldfish in our fishtank...whereupon we promptly noticed that once of the fish had gotten his fin caught in the filter intake tube, and was, in a word, dead.

My kids immediately started crying as I pulled his little body out of the tank. Ever the teacher, I feebly said, "But now we can see his gills up close..." which set off another round of sobbing.

We gently disposed of his body, said a prayer, and then put Parts of a Fish back on the shelf and moved on to other materials.

The best laid plans and all that...

Oh Lori, I feel your pain! We lost one of our goldfish last week too. We thought one of our cats had somehow reached through the narrow opening between the cover and filter and had a fish dinner. The cats were under suspicion for a couple of days until my dh found the fish in the intake tube. Poor fish!

I'm sorry for your loss, and hope the kids will somehow come to terms with it too. So sweet that you've shared with all of us today---hope the next day is better!

Yes, the good news is that we got out the Division Bead Board and my son loved it. My daughter painted quietly while we worked, and I was glad that we had continued working rather than just throwing in the towel completely.
