Was absolutely terrific! Both kids were so enthusiastic and just happy to be back to school again! Sure makes my job easy!
I had planned a very relaxed day just introducing one or two things, but dd in particular just wanted more, more , more!
Here are the presentations I did with dd today:
1. folding/unfolding and use of mat
2. cylinder block 1 (she ended up doing all 4 since she loved them so much!
3. pink cards-matching word to picure
4. sandbox letter writing
5. matching "my family" (cards with pics and names of family members)
4. intro to decimal quantity (nomenclature)
5. Intro to decimal system (passing 9)
6. metal insets, tracing and filling in
7. missing letter game (not Montessori, but involves me removing letters from pink words and dd replacing them)
8. spooning birdseed
9. globe of continents
10. map of hemispheres (nomenclature)
11. matching pics of moms and babies to continent puzzle pieces
12. Coins of the world matching
Plus we did a read aloud, and she listened in on ds's lesson on latitude and longitude! And we took a short break mid-morning.
Believe it or not, we didn't even start until after 10 am and all this, plus ds's stuff was all done before lunchtime at 1!
All of the presentations went splendidly. She balked a bit at having to fill in the inset drawings only with straight lines across, but after a bit of redirections was able to do it fine. And I love how she was so responsible about putting everything away properly when done.
Ds started on his math DVD's and breezed through. He was able to concentrate very well since I set him up with a little DVD player at my desk in my room, and I just popped in to check on him from time to time.
Then for geometry he had a wonderful idea for learning angles in a very kinesthetic way-on his skateboard! I am going to blog about that because I think he was so clever to think of it.
Happy day for me!

Oh Theresa - it sounds like you had a wonderful day! And I will admit that as I was reading the list of things you did, I was thinking it was an all day affair, and how I'd never be able to wrangle my 2 little guys into being attentive for that long. You give me hope!

Wow! That's an awesome day!
How did you find the coins of the world matching? Did you just make up cards with the names of the coins?

I got that set from M&Such. It has 50 coins from 50 countries, plus a 2 sided card with pictures of all the coins with the country of origin (which I laminated, of course).
The two kids worked together and they just matched the coins to the pictures and ds read the country name to dd.
The next task is for me to choose a few for dd to match to the continent map.

Did you buy two sets, or did the set come with two?
Sounds like you had a great first day!

Not two sets. They matched the actual coin with the photo of the coin on the id card.
