Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I need some advice from those more scientifically inclined than I. I am planning next month's educational purchase, and I am leaning toward kingdom charts. I'm sure they could be made, but I've got the beginnings of carpal tunnel from the 350 (times 2) laminated geometry cards I made from scratch. Plus a depletion in grey matter, I'm sure.

So. I've wanted the charts at In Print for Children for years. (At their menu bar click products, then biology/classification.) They're attractive and detailed. Perhaps too detailed. The charts at Montessori R&D are simpler, and include working charts. (Also see this.) But they're not as nice.

Both sets include cards and labels. The RD charts are less expensive, but not tremendously so.

My question: Do you think the In Print charts have too much information? They indicate that their plant chart has the same classification as is used in high school and college, which is cool, but perhaps TMI at this stage? (I've got ages 7, 9, and 10 this year). The RD cards go directly to phyla, so the "Kingdom, phylum, class . . . " breakdown is more obvious.

Well, I have at least a month to decide, in which time I might just make my own. Unless someone else has done the hard work already.

I prefer the first set. I don't think it is TMI at all, especially for your 10 yo,and I think it is actually more accurate to divide it up the way they have it. Plus, plants don't actually have phyla, but "divisions", so the RD one is inaccurate right off the bat.Why start off with that?
I would go with the In Print ones.

There, you see? I had no idea plants weren't divided into phyla. Thank you, Theresa!

My four-year-old is sitting at the computer (it's in the kitchen) eating banana bread out of a bag staring at your galloping horse. Like someone eating popcorn at the movies.

(Actually my ten-year-old equestrienne was watching it, too, which engendered a discussion as to whether it was cantering or galloping. We settled on gallop.)

I do believe it is a gallop. Hard to tell, but it looks like there is a brief moment when all 4 feet are off the ground.

It's a gallop, and thank you also for the scientific tidbit on the plants not having phyla but being divided.

I've been looking at those InPrint ones too and I really like the package! I also love that it doesn't have to be laminated It's ready to go!!
