Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I've been cleaning out our school room and trying my best to re-organize things. It's going along very slowly, but I hope to be finished this week!

Anyway, I have been thinking about things I'd like to have or do and a couple of things came to mind.

For the geography boxes, or just for geography in general I had an idea to take pictures of some of the things around town and hopefully in the state too. I don't have a clue how to go about posting them to a central location, but I'd love to start a project of photos from each state to use in the USA box. Some things I know I would like to include are (of course) cotton growing, blooming and open bolls, soybeans, rice, and corn. There is an old swing bridge here, and that brought me to think about an architecture tray too. There's so much old beautiful architecture here, it would be a great resource too. I know this sounds like rambling (sorry!), but wouldn't it be a neat project for us to post some things our state is famous for? I don't know how we could do this. Maybe it's not really a good idea.

Another thing I thought about today and am in the process of actually doing is making up bags for my tray presentations. Since it's not really feasible to have so many trays out at once, I thought about putting the things needed for a particular tray together in a large ziplock bag. That way I could just pull these each week for whatever trays I'd like to have out. For example I found a great book about shells (The How and Why Wonder Book of Sea Shells), so that goes in the bag along with a note card listing things that I need to buy to go in the bag (shells, nomenclature cards, etc.)

I love the bag idea- I am doing something similar with mailing envelopes. I agree you (and everyone else who doesn't have one yet) should really get a blog! I am hoping to post about my envelope scheme and my entire school room set up once I have it more finished. Since I am making it up as I go along
I'm thinking about bags now...

I think this is a great idea Vicki. I am in Australia - & have noticed a few people interested in things for their continent boxes - so maybe I could add an international flavour!

Also, I have started my very first blog - with homeschooljournal, thanks for the tip Theresa! - & hope to have enough together soon to mention it here!

Amber

P.S - Merideth, if you're reading this how can I add a photo / signature to my posts?

I could do it for England too. What size of pictures would be best for printing onto cards?

Wow - I love the ziplock bag idea. Definitely gonna use that idea, if you don't mind!

I looked at the blogging site this morning, and can't decide if I have enough of anything interesting to post to justify having one. For years my Mom has been after me to write thoughts in a daily journal, but alas, I haven't even started that yet!

The other part is that I'm just not very computer savvy. I think I need to take some kind of computer class to figure out how to do all this stuff!

Oh, I should edit...Kathryn, that would be great!

Kathryn how generous!! Most of the nomenclature cards are 6 x 8 and under. Any size would probably be ok as long as we can pop it into a 3-part card template. If you want you could email me a sample photo and I'll try it in the template that I have. Should be a no-brainer, I hope

Vicki, thanks for starting this thread!!

You could always nab some Alaska pics off my blog, or I'd be glad to send some to you. NC, too.

Is it possible for me to take some pictures from here, and just e-mail them to someone here to keep so everyone could get them from one person?   Also, when cotton is ready to harvest, I'd be glad to send cotton bolls to whomever wants them. I can probably get rice and soybeans too, but I have to check since it is a friend's farm. I wish I could send ya'll the scent of real magnolia blossoms, 'cause the stuff you buy at Bath and Body Works doesn't come close!

I have been planning to experiment with Flickr but haven't got round to it yet, so I'm not sure how it works ... but would it be possible to set up a Flickr account or folder to store photos for this group?

Meredith, what do you think?

Kathryn, that's about what I had in mind for this, I just couldn't figure out how to go about it. That sounds like a great idea! I'll wait to see what Meredith says, then if it all works out, we'll be set to go!

Editing to say...I'll get some pictures today of the cotton fields, rice and soybeans before it gets too late and I forget. Cotton should be making blooms about now and I want to catch the soybeans before they start to dry out.

I think that would be a great idea. If we start a thread with the photobucket or flickr account linked, each time there's an addition, just pop a note into the thread and people can just check in whenever they need some inspiration!

I'll let you set it up Kathryn and then send me the link and I'll start the thread, sound good?

I'll get some pictures of the Miss. River with barges (hopefully), Miss. River Bridge, swing bridge, cotton, rice and soybeans.
