Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Here's a different take on the Montessori materials. My MIL had open heart surgery 6 months ago. During the surgery she suffered a double stroke which has left her unable to walk or use her right arm and hand. She has been undergoing intensive physical therapy and is now able to use a walker but still struggles with her arm/hand. Well, the physical therapist recommended we get her some large pop beads to work with. But this got me thinking about all that great Montessori stuff. I passed on the information, and her two daughters are currently putting together baskets and trays of practical life and sensorial materials for her to work on. I think this is so wonderful and so much better than pop beads. Just thought I'd pass it on!

That's fantasic! My grandmother was over yesterday and made comments about how she has always been clumsy with her hands. She said that the Montessori activities would have really helped her in this area. I don't think that she is looking to improve her dexterity at this point, but it did make me stop and think about how helpful these activities are in general!

You are right, the Montessori materials can be fantastic for physical therapy. Someone asked me once if that could be done and I wrote about it here:

The Montessori Method for Adults
