Grr... I have made the 30 minute drive to ACMoore twice now for plain white cardstock only to be told that they are sold out.

Walmart has only small packages, and the cost was about $4 for 20 sheets. I just feel like I should be able to get a better deal than that. Or maybe that is a good deal?

I just want a package of about 50-100 sheets to print three part cards.

Where to next?

Melinda,
I have purchased white cardstock by the ream from the office/school supply section of WalMart. Perhaps you were looking in the scrapbooking supply section when you found the small packages?

If you were close, I would bring some of my stock over! I have so much more decluttering of my guest/sewing/craft room to do!

How about the office supply stores?   I've seen the big packages of it (is that called a ream?) for about $14-19....something like that.

I looked in the school supply section of Walmart... it was in chaos, though, because they were setting up school supply displays. I also just wanted a pack of brown only construction paper- not, they did not have it. They had every color known of post-it notes, though.

Maybe I'll check back with Walmart later this week or try an office store.

Thanks!

Office Depot is where I usually get mine.

Office Depot and Staples have a variety of cardstock. If you walk back to the printing section you can see samples of different weights of stock, also the different colors, and then go to the shelves to find the kind you want (or ask help).

Some printers might have a hard time with thicker cardstocks.

We get ours from WalMart in the section with their printing paper - I usually have to look for it, as it's one tiny stack in the middle of lots of others, but it's somewhere around $6 for a pack of 250.

Maybe I did miss this at Walmart. $6 for 250 sheets is the kind of deal that I am looking for, but I sure couldn't find it. I will have to go back and look again.

We get ours at OfficeMax; the 250-sheet packs are around $10-12. Some are Wausau brand, others are store brand -- both seem fine.   They have two weights (67 lb. and 110 lb.), but I don't notice much difference between them, especially when they're laminated.

From what I've seen, the big packs are only available in white, ivory, light yellow, and light blue. They also have 100-packs of single primary colors (like bright red) for $8 or $9. To get pink or light green, you have to buy a multi-pack, which includes a bunch of colors you probably didn't want.

BTW, our HP inkjet printer does fine with 110 lb., even though it's "officially" far too thick.

I get mine at XpedX. THey have the largest selection of reams - anything from very basic white/offwhite to really nice cardstock in a variety of colors. And since it is in reams it is pretty reasonable per sheet. I wasn't sure how widespread the store locations are but it looks like they are in most states - high population areas.

Ooh, thank you, Mary! There's a store pretty close to us. We'll have to plan an expedition next week.

I was talking to dh about my card stock dilemma and showed him what I want to print (Theresa's Mother and Child pictures). He thought the pictures were so beautiful that he wanted to print them out on special heavyweight ink jet paper (here)

I wasn't so convinced, because the cost is quite a bit more than regular paper, but then he printed one copy on card stock and one on the special paper. Ok- the special paper won; the pictures came out so gorgeous. The paper is like a light weight card stock and should hold up fine once laminated.

The site he orders from, data bazaar, has *Free Shipping* with no minimum order, plus it has ink cartridges dirt cheap. He pays about $7 for a black and a color together (about $3.50 a piece) and orders as needed since shipping is free.

Melinda, that looks similar to the Kodak matte inkjet photo paper that we got at Costco a while back. I don't remember how much it cost, but it was pretty reasonable, and, being from Costco, it came in a package big enough to last a few decades. I'll have to try it for those extra-special pictures.

Here's some information I found about inkjet photo paper. Apparently, "heavyweight" can mean just about anything, so I guess it would be advisable to have a sample of the specific paper in hand before ordering.

I have successfully bought many kinds of paper and other art supplies from Dick Blick Art Materials. They're very good to work with. They sell newsprint, too, another handy kids' art resource to have around. I ordered it by the ream; it's much cheaper than the newsprint sketchpads at the big box stores.

You can never go wrong with Dick Blick. The last time I needed to order art supplies for the kids I spend 40 mins on the phone with customer service to make sure I was getting everything excatly as I wanted. Can say enough good!!! Also, go to their web site and get their sale catalog...I got some very good deals!

Along the line of looking for ends of newspaper reams for projects, which I see suggested everywhere, my FIL works for a printing company so we get all sorts of odds and ends in paper. Maybe this could help you think of a person in your life that would have access to excess paper to get cheap or FREE. I do have to say the neatest paper we have been able to use so far is underwater paper that divers use!

Just an idea,
Michelle

I just bought about 5 packages of cardstock at Big Lots this past week. The package has 75 sheets and sells for $2. I found mine with the back-to-school things, but sometimes you have to scrounge around to find things at Big Lots. It's worth looking for if you can find it!
