First let me say that I am so excited about the explosion of interest in Montessori taking place here on 4real!    I am amazed at the things you're doing and I am so looking forward to journeying with you as you incorporate more Montessori into your home learning environments! One thing (among many) I hope to learn by "watching" you wonderful ladies is how Montessori and Real Learning come together.

I've been researching and learning about Montessori for about 2-1/2 years now and have had great success using it in our home, but I've only scratched the surface with Charlotte Mason. I finally decided I need to take the plunge and get her original 6-book series. It seems daunting as I know it is not easy reading and SIX volumes ... YIKES!!! Since osmosis is out of the picture and I doubt the books are available on cassette/cd, I will have to content myself with learning one little bit at a time! I feel like I'm going through the same thing many of you are, only in REVERSE!

Anyhoo, I am wondering if you could give me a quick run-down on the savings and discount codes currently available at the different Montessori suppliers as well as how long those codes will be active? We will be purchasing a fair amount of bead material and some geography materials this summer and I'm wondering if I need to act soon or if I can wait until we get back from family vacation, late July? TIA for your help!

Well, you're ahead of me as I've read only 3 or 4 of her original writings and I learn something new each time I pull them out!! Montessori and CM are VERY compatible IMHO (as I am NOT a Montessori purist).

Kristin - so glad you're here too! It is so rewarding as you begin reading about Charlotte Mason and Maria Montessori. I agree with Meredith, there is so much that the two have in common. It is all "Real Learning!" I thought about suggesting this last night, but I forgot...it might be easier to start with Karen Andreola's Charlotte Mason Companion. Sort of a "summa on the summa" Also, Charlotte Mason Study Guide by Penny Gardner is a small but neat book! You could pick them up from the library and you'd be all caught up!

I so enjoy reading and learning on these two ladies, don't you? My mom homeschooled my brother and sister many years ago now, and that was my first introduction to CM. She was a CM pioneer - thanks Mom! When our youngest was about 2 (8ish years ago) we started bringing MM into the picture, and I have just fallen in love with them both and how they mesh so beautifully in children's learning!   They both foster a dignity of the child that echoes a truth that I believe our Creator placed within us.

I really appreciate all of your help and experience on our Montessori discussions here! I really love having all of the voices helping me out!
