I just noticed on the Montessori by Hand yahoo group there is a great set of "tools" 3-part cards. As soon as I saw them I thought of some of you with your tool-crazy boys!LOL!
Anyway, to access them you need to join the group. If you are already a member go to files>language>3 part cards, and then scroll down to the tool cards.I think there are 3 files.
Enjoy!

ugh - I need those cards! I hear all of you talking about yahoo groups, and I just don't have any more time to give to the computer or these really neat yahoo groups even though I long to join that one you talked about on the other thread with Karen (can't remember who was asking about it) and the yahoo group and the courses with manuals. I am sooooo tempted there.
How do you guys manage it all? Really! My kids get up so early - 5:30 - so I don't have any free morning time. And I'm really convicted that I need to be present to my dh in the evenings and not online. How do you manage your time and the resources available on the computer? Cause' I'd really like to join a couple of these groups to take advantage of the awesome resources.

Jennifer, the nice thing about the yahoo groups that I've joined is that, although sharing is encouraged, there is absolutely no obligation involved. I can visit and read if I like, or not.
When you join a group, you can edit your settings to "no mail, online only" and you will not receive any mail at all. That way you can visit the group online and check out the posting and files just as you would any other resource.
You can also edit the settings for "daily digest" and you will receive all of the postings together at once. The emails contain alerts to let you know when a new file has been added.
Now, other groups do expect participation from the members.I think the one with the class would certainly be one of those.
The group for Montessori by hand is very low volume and is just a place to share files, really. For instance, if you read Meg's blog, she referenced adding a file to the Yahoo group. It is a really nice checklist of presentations for math and sensorial, much like what I have been looking for. So, that was nice to be able to zip on over there and check it out.
I guess I am saying that you can put as little or as much time as you want into Yahoo groups. My time spent on them, though I belong to several groups, is minimal. Especially considering the amount of time I spend here and blog reading.

Jennifer,
Karen's online class with the albums doesn't require any participation. I asked her about it before I enrolled because I was concerned that I wouldn't be able to enroll since I'll be having a baby in the middle of the class. She said that lots of moms apparently have babies in the middle of the class , and that participation is up to you, if you have any questions, etc. But you're free to just download the manuals. ($10 a month/$30 for the class).
I hadn't joined the Montessori by Hand group, though -- now I'm glad I didn't order those tool cards from Montessori Services! (If I can get dh to carry the printer up from downstairs, that is... and if I can somehow manage a laminator, maybe for my birthday next month??? )

Maids, Butlers...oh, and a Nanny of course Just kidding! It's really a matter of choices, and for me as well as many who blog and belong to this forum, you just pick and choose what you can manage between diaper changes, dishes, schooling, and dh, etc! I try not to fret too much when I haven't posted for a few days on my blog and keep my priorities in line. Some days it's feast or famine, and like Theresa pointed out, many of these groups allow you to join just for the use of their files without any commitment or contributions.
I am anything but Superwoman, nor do I want to come across as if I am I am trying to keep my eye on the ultimate goal, heaven!!
Blessings to you!

I replied to you by PM, but I'd like to add my response here as well, just in case others may be wondering the same thing.
There are several ways the cards could be used, depending on the age of your children. Typically two copies of the cards are made. One copy is left intact, while in the other copy the image and title are cut apart.
For non-readers you can set it up as a simple matching game where they match the pictures to each other, and the words to the picture, checking their work with the intact cards (control cards). Readers can match the word to the card without looking at the control until the have done them all.
You can also have them match the cards to actual tools if you have them, and eventually the words to the tools, again using the controls to check their work.
They can also do things like use them as classifying cards. Make titles like "power tools" and "hand tools" or "pounding," "driving" and "cutting" and let the kids sort the pictures into the correct groups.
It is also fun to play guessing games like you say: "I am a tool that is used to drive nails into wood," and let your child find the picture or word to go with the clues. If you have readers, you can write the clues on cards that they can read themselves, and match them to the pictures and/or words.
I hope that answers your question!
