Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Oh, I wanted to add that my family has been following a classical education ideal for many years. We first enrolled in Kolbe way back in 1995 (or early '96-- can't quite remember, but anyway, it was our second year of homeschooling). We're still enrolled and love the Catholic Ignatian philosophy of education, and that is probably where I get my main inspiration even though I don't always use Kolbe's recommended curriculum (some years we use more, sometimes less).

I've noticed in our homeschooling time that we have "seasons" during a year -- some parts of the year more structured and "schooly"-looking, others more nature-oriented or literature-oriented, and recently I've also noticed that our homeschool goes through broader "cycles" where one year might be more "relaxed" and another year be more "structured" -- (though those terms are not quite satisfying to me because sometimes "relaxed" means MORE of a structure but more of an organic or intrinsic structure, while sometimes "structure" for me is a way to relax -- the past couple of years our academics have been more externally structured because that allowed me to focus on medical issues with my medically fragile 6th child and not get overwhelmed).    So now I'm swinging back a bit the other way and trying to slow our homeschool down to a slightly more leisurely, contemplative pace since I was starting to feel that we were getting too much into a checklist mentality and that "real learning" was suffering a bit as a result.

Now that's probably quite enough long involved sentences but the basic point is that there is (I believe) a range of ways to DO classical education and that variety is welcome here

Hi Willa and everyone,

We started out Classical from day 1 following MODG curriculum guides, however, as time has gone on and our family has increased in size I've made major adjustments. Like you Willa, we tend to "go with the flow".

Could you tell us what the main advantage of being signed up with Kolbe is?

Thank you!
