I'm not sure if my question should be here or in Book Club!
Anyways, at least a year ago, there was a thread about an author, a man, and his book which was basically amount how our public school system began, how it was modeled after the Germans, what sort of student it produces. He himself was a teacher in NY and tried very hard for his students not to become what he felt the school system produced.
I did actually read this book, but sadly, I can't recall author name or title and my dh wanted to recommend it to a friend of his.
If anyone has any ideas, and can help fill in my swiss cheese brain, I'd most appreciate it!

Thanks for the link to that thread. I read it at the time, but have recently been reading John Holt and it has me doing a LOT of thinking about what I should and shouldn't do and why.
