Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

When we began homeschooling almost five years ago, a friend sent us a big stack of old issues of Growing Without Schooling, the publication put out by John Holt, which had belonged to a friend of hers. The friend had read them and gleaned much from them, but was ready to get them out of her house and didn't want to throw them away. So she told my friend she wanted to find someone who could make good use of them, and my friend sent them to me.

Now we have read them, gleaned a lot of wisdom from them about learning outside a "school" framework -- and are ready to get them out of our house. I'm moving my whole desk area out of my room and paring down generally, and I would like to find a good home for these if I can, instead of throwing them out.

The issues date back into the mid-1980s (Holt was still alive and contributing) and are full of great stuff for home educators who lean towards an unschoolier approach. This publication is, of course, largely secular; still, there are many good thoughts and ideas to be gained.

If anyone's interested in having these, let me know and I will box them up and send them to you. It's quite a large stack, so if more than one person is interested, I'll divvy them up (randomly) into however many piles and send them out, and the recipients can share back and forth with each other as they like.

So -- they're up for grabs. Let me know if you'd like some!

I've had four people speak for the back issues of GWS. It's a really big stack, so if no one has any objections, I'll just divide it four ways. That way everyone will have a nice little set, and if you want to trade back and forth, you can do that, too! Let me recheck my PMs, and then I'll post who's getting them -- I'll reply to you all, too, so you'll know that I know who you are.

Thanks to you all -- I'm glad to move these along to more families who can use them.

Sally
