Do you mean "thriller" only as in "scary" or "thriller" as in suspense and action?

I asked my teen...scary first, suspense and action second. So - both . Thanks, Karen.

What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? Too scary? How about Gaslight? More suspense than fright, maybe. Sunset Boulevard? Does she like sci fi?

Signs, The Sixth Sense and The Village - all M. Night Shyamalan films. I think Signs is especially good, but not everyone thinks his work is scary. Really scary - Nosferatu ( need a scared emoticon for that one !)

M. Night Shyamalan's "The Village" & "Signs", both favorites here (me too!)

Alfred Hitchcock recommendations from my teens:
"I confess"
"Rear Wiindow"
"North by Northwest"
"Strangers on a Train"
"To Catch a Thief"
"Dial M for Murder"
"Charade"

Great and keep 'em coming!

Dd and some of her local friends are looking to have a scary movie night/s so it is actually a mix of tastes to include sci-fi. Whatever Happened to Baby Jane isn't too scary (a few have already seen it.)

I'm going to digress here thinking about sci-fi...when I saw E.T. in the theater many moons ago, I didn't like it and I felt very alone . Well, some of our family watched it recently and I still didn't like but guess what...my dd didn't either! I am no longer alone .

Love,

Fugitive is a good one, but it does have a steamy scene between Harrison Ford's character and the wife.

It is also pretty violent.

We waited on that movie.

How about the Twilight Zone movie with John Lithgow? My dh seems to remember that this is pretty clean and I remember it being scary!

Jumangi is fun.
Indiana Jones movies, but maybe not the second.
The Mummy with Brendan Frazier, this wouldn't work for teenage boys because of the woman's attire, but I think other than that it is okay.

This is fun!

One more:
Poltergeist terrified me as a kid! If they want to be scared this is a great one.

There is a scene where the parents are smoking pot.

Perhaps War of the Worlds?

I am glad that there is always somebody who remembers these things. I have a bad memory!

My kids loved "Rear Window", too.

How about "Wait Until Dark"?

Here's a question, too, has anyone seen "Blade Runner" recently? I liked it years ago, but honestly, I don't remember if there's anything really bad in it-it's been too long. Sigh.

I clearly remember being very scared by this as a young teen. In fact, I think I saw it on video with my parish youth group.

I also agree with all of Michele's Alfred Hitchcock suggestions. We haven't watched them with the chidren yet, but dh and I really enjoy those.

What about several of the old Edgar Allan Poe movies? Vincent Price and Bela Lugosi made several that I remember watching as a young teen. The Pit and the Pendulum was especially creepy if I remember right.

We have "I Confess" as recommended by a good priest. Haven't watched it yet, but it was supposed to be good.

I second ( actually I guess, third or fourth) the M. Night Shyamalan movies. Creepy fun! "Signs" really spooked dd17 when she saw it.

His new one is good too - "The Lady in the Water", I think it is. TOTALLY different then what I was expecting from the TV trailers. Shyamalan said he got the idea for the movie based on a bedtime story he told his children about what happens in their pool at night.

Edited to add:

Although the girl is pretty undressed at times. Maybe if it was all girls? You would maybe want to pre-view for sure though!!!

Love M. Night Shyamalan.

And I remember "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane". Not scary, but creepy.

Speaking of Vincent Price, "House of Wax" (the old one with him in it not the newer one with Paris Hilton in it ) always spooked me as a child.

Also, I only read the book "Wuthering Heights" so I'm not sure how many movie versions are out there or which one is the best or even if it's considered "scary" but the book sure creeped me out.

I have the director's cut--lots of blood. Some brief nudity. The first target is an android who works as a prostitute. Thinly veiled homoerotic tension between the creator and one of his creations. Other than that, it's fine .
