We are desperately trying to get our house packed up and repaired so we can rent it out while we are in India. So, we emptied one bedroom and filled it with beds.
Well, the baby still sleeps with us- but the other 4 are in there. No one complained. No one asked why. It really makes me feel better about going to India where they probably will all be in one room. We call it a sleeping room and nothing else is allowed in. I put all their clothes in a closet together and the house is staying so much neater! All the toys that I haven't given away yet are in the basement. Why does it take something major for me to get organized. I think we'll live like this when we get back also.

We did a similar thing last year (in our old house) with the sleeping arrangements and clothes. It takes so long to think of it because we're presented with a house full of rooms and are conditioned to think that each child should have their own or that things should be spread around even ly or each room should be filled. But it does feel good to not conform and find it works, doesn't it?

We recently put our 3 kids in a small room together--one set of bunks and a toddler bed. The only other think in there is one dresser, which they all share. One of the small rooms in our house had been converted to a big closet, before we moved here, so I'm working on putting all the clothes in there, except socks and underwear, which is going in the dresser in the bedroom.
They are all thrilled to be in the room together. There are no toys in the bedroom, which keeps at least THAT room clean . I love thinking about how many kids we could actully fit in that room. I'm thinking 6, 2 sets of bunks with trundles underneath. Lots of people think I'm nuts thinking that way.

Noreen, sounds like our house!!! I can just imagine what folks coming through to view our house say when they see all the beds! Everyone has their own bed, but still so many stand empty all night because they bunk together.
We are blessed to have a 'clothes room' in our basement just off the laundry room. EVERYONE keeps every stitch of clothing down there, so no clothes are in the bedrooms, or dressers either, except for our bedroom, I have a dresser to keep the diapers in.

I'm jealous every time I hear you mention this....we are overrun with clothes and this seems like the perfect solution.....EXCEPT for our spidery basement!

Dh and I are hoping to move our washer and dryer UPstairs to the "closet room." Fortunately, our w & d are on the kitchen level of the house, not the basement, but I would love to have it upstairs where all the bedrooms are.
