I've read through the other thread, and it's so much fun! We're expecting a 2nd girl, and we thought we had her name all settled - until we realized that her initials would be ELF. How bad is this? I still love the name - Elizabeth Louise - but we are trying to think if there is another name we might love just as much. I would love to go with a "Catholic" sounding name, but certain ones are out because of nieces - Theresa, Emma, Claire, and Catherine. My dd's name is Abigail Anne. I also love Mary Margaret.
If we were to go with Louise Elizabeth and call her Elizabeth, would that just be too confusing for her to go by her middle name? I don't love the name Louise enough to use it all the time - but it is my MIL's name, so....if you're a little bored and looking to talk baby names, post your thoughts! Thanks!

I like Elizabeth Louise. Many names spell out words. How often would you be using her initials? I think even with a monogram, a girl's last name would be in the center of the monogram. (EFL)
Our second DD's name is Elisabeth Grace & we call her Grace. Older DD's name is Emma Cecilia, so I knew I'd be tongue-tied with calling out Emma and Elisabeth!
I'm thinking of Catherine Marie or Mary Catherine for our new little one.

If our baby is a girl, she will be Elizabeth Louise. I do not think that using Louise Elizabeth and calling her Elizabeth would be confusing. St. Therese was Marie Frances Therese. All of her sisters had Marie for their first name. It is quite common for the French to go by their second name or their third name (as in St. Therese's case and my dad's family). My dad has always been called by his third name without any confusion.

My friend and sil both like the name Grace Louise for a girl. My mil's middle name is Louise which we planned on using for our next baby's middle name. My bil and sil used it in August for their daughter, Allison Louise, so I feel we should pick a new middle name.
sigh...I guess when it is a family of 9 children other siblings would like to use their Mom's names also...dh just laughs and says we can still use it...
My Mom goes by her middle name and hates it. She thinks it is too confusing and you always have to explain yourself. I think she was also given grief by not having a saint's name when in school...not by the nuns but by other girls..imagine today being upset with not having a saint's name on the playground!!!!

I'd go with Elizabeth Louise and not worry about the initials. I have a dd whose first and last initials are B.S. I don't look forward to the moment when she makes the connection between her initials and the crude term that can refer to, but it still didn't stop us from choosing our favorite first name.

As far as initials go, ELF is pretty cute. I know none of my kids would mind having that as a nickname, much less initials. Actually, my daughter has ears that are slightly pointed and elf-like and I've always called her my little elf. She's not so little any more, at 16, but she's still a cute little elf to me!)
