Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Well at least I have high hopes

I've tried a number of different methods of putting the kids on a dish rotation.. nothing seems to work.. We are now at 3 weeks (4 rotation) into this new system and it really really seems to be working for our family.

I printed out a blank calender.. When you've finished the day you may sign your name to that day on the calender.. if it's not done I put a line through the day and it doesn't count..

set some parameters. The main thing is that all the kitchen MUST be completely clean before I need to make dinner. AND rotation is from oldest to youngest (only working with the 4 oldest right now)..

it works because if someone doesn't finish their job it's carried over to the next day (you don't get credit for doing it until your name is signed). I have had only a few days of it being carried over (usually because they don't finish rather than didn't start) but because the kitchen is clean before it's handed off I get a lot less grief about it from the other kids..

No question about who's turn it is.. all I have to do it see who signed on the calender last.

I think it'll work when someone is gone because we will just skip over and then the person gone will add back in when they get home.. and I can track all that by who signs (though we haven't had someone gone yet so we'll have to just wait and see how it works for that).

But anyway.. I had to share.. it's probably one of the simplest systems I've ever tried and it's really working.

Oh and it's not up to me to remind kids to sign.. if they don't sign I mark through at bedtime and they get another day this takes the pressure off me to keep things fair or determine who's turn it really is.. it's their problem.

Great organization food for thought! We have certain kids that do other chores, so I don't *think* I can copy it-- but it seems like such a good system that I'd like to tweak something like it.

Well no one wants to do dishes and so trying to do more than one day for each was a real battle. They'll more or less happily help with any other chore on a "mom said" basis. So finding a solution for getting the dishes done without the battle makes EVERYTHING work better.
